If any of you have considered jumping into either an Amazon Echo device and/or basic home automation, I have good news. As a Black Friday special, Amazon is selling the Echo Dot for only $29.95 each (they are normally $49.95). Furthermore, they are offering a combo deal of an Echo Dot + a TP-Link HS100 smart plug (which itself normally sells for $27.30) for only $5 more. To get both items for $34.95 is a really sweet deal.
I got myself a Dot back in August. I've slowly been figuring out a few simple things to do with it; even though I have hardly scratched the surface of what is possible, I've enjoyed it. I've been holding off on home automation simply because that requires buying additional hardware, but thanks to this deal I'm finally ready to proceed. I already wanted a second Dot for myself; now I'll buy two combos, keep one Dot and both smart plugs, and gift the other Dot to a family member for Christmas.
