Honda CRV

I have a new Trooper :D

So I've been doing some reading on the forum, as well as around the web, and I really haven't really come across much in terms of CRV build kits and build knowledge. Recently I sold my trooper (I miss it dearly), and got a 2004 Honda CRV. After I got it, I started looking at pictures online as to what the CRV could be built to be. And I've been sorely disappointed, with the exception of one photo. It is a R/C model car of a CRV, but it looks pretty intense (if i could post photos from my phone, I would, But I haven't figured that out yet. So I will post what I'm talking about when I get home from church).

My question is what would I need to do to be able to fit some decent sized all terrains under it (meaning 28-32 inches)? From what I've read I can for sure do a 2 inch body lift, and a possible 2 inch suspension lift, but I haven't been able to find much aside from sumo parts body lift (I think that's what they're called.....), as well as an old man emu 1 inch lift. Aside from that I have general thoughts as to what I can do, but nothing solid. The end goal would be to have a rig that's capable of doing easy lines on trails like the snakes, or forest lake, and even some Moab trails. Any thoughts on this idea????

The CRV is body on frame? That's cool. With that kind of short wheel base I bet you wouldn't need much more than 31s. A google image search for "lifted CRV" shows lots of these little cars on what look like 30s and 31s, lots of those pics will be in build threads, click through and see what you can find.

Call Kurt too, looks like OME makes a set of coils for your CRV and ARB makes a lightbar-looking thing.

that would be the ultimate goal for any 4wd/awd vehicle that i own, but that would require convincning the wife to let me actually do that. I saw how long it took Steve to build up the Zuki he had a few years back, I dont think that my wife would want the CRV out of comission for upwards of two months, especially when i dont have a grage just yet :p.

anyway, here is the photo of the CRV that i mentioned earlier.9838c23d66ffb2ca834eab35aae4bbbb.jpg

Thats a pretty bad ass looking CRV.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin, what's Kurts contact info? I think that this is an upgrade my wife will let me do in the near future.

I think CRVs are awesome little vehicles, but after all that modification, it would pretty much suck at everything. It doesn't have a low range t-case, so you'll never be able to crawl without stressing the auto trans. And it's not a body on frame, it's a unibody. And it doesn't exactly have an excess of power.

If a CRV or RAV 4 had a 4-low then I'd probably own one, as my trips are more about exploration than rock crawling. CRVs are awesome at exploring dirt roads, commuting, getting great MPG, and being insanely reliable. That being said, they're never going to be good, or even acceptable, at rock crawling. Any stock 4x4 with 4-low is going to be better than that CRV linked above.

Don't get me wrong, lifted CRVs (or lifted anything) look really good. But you're going to lose MPG, power, and won't gain a ton in the whole capability department. if you absolutely had to lift a CRV, I'd go with a small OME lift and a 29" LT/AT tire and call it good.

Cool thanks for the input Steve, it's kinda fun toying with ideas like this. Keeps the imagination and creativity strong. But I'll definitely have to go over to Kurts site and try to convince the wife that the CRV would look good just a little higher up! Plus even a small lift would be better for the roads that my wife lets me run, than with what I have now. So with that being said, I will keep my plans and ideas for my street legal Rubber Duck truck I plan on building in the next 6 years when I'm done with school! Thank you all for the input, and happy thanksgiving!
