hood popping issues

My 99 4runner is having issues with the hood popping up while on the freeway. It pops up an inch or so, not all the way open. It's absolutely annoying, and potentially very dangerous. I slam it as hard as I can, which generally prevents it from popping up for awhile. it's been happening more and more each day.

Anyone dealt with this? What can I do to make the freakin thing stay latched shut?

Replace the spring/latch mechanism? It's probably worn out.

You might need to adjust the position of the latch mechanism, or the little bumpers the hood sits on, or both--sounds like it's not REALLY latching. A bit of lube on the latch can't hurt either.

The Hate Tank did that-- worn hood latch, as above.

Take the pop corn off the exhaust manifold.

Oil the latch.
