How big of a spare on a stock CJ carrier.

How big of a spare tire can I put on a CJ stock spare tire carrier before it starts to damage the carrier or sheet metal where it hooks into the body ? I am planning on building a bumper mount carrier but it may take me a while before I get to it and I don't want to mess up the jeep in the mean time.
Thanks,
Dave

33x9.50 did me in.

Since I don't have a welder, I had a friend build me a bracket with a plate that bolted on where the bumperette on pass side is, then 2" square tubing(hitch tubing) running vertically. I had the OEM carrier welded to the tubing. Now it carries a 33" spare with no weight on the sheetmetal. It's been on a couple of years and works well. It will get me by until I can find the cash for a real bumper/tire carrier.

Well it sounds like I better build the bumper mount carrier because I am going to have a 33x12.50 tire on mine......

I had a 32x11.5 on mine, and I don't think you could go any bigger without a mod of some kind.
