How do I paint brand new drywall?

I need to paint my garage. The drywall is all sanded smooth. I have PVA primer and Latex paint. I understand I need to remove as much of the dust from sanding as possible before the primer. What's the best way? I have heard running a broom over it is good enough. I've also heard some people use a vacuum. How good a job do I need to do and what's the best way? I have also heard from people that I need to sand very lightly after I apply the primer. I have not been able to verify this on any web site. Do I need to sand the primer? Anything else I'm not thinking of?

What I've done with new drywall is just wipe it down with a wet rag (better than vacumming) and then just paint it once with a primer/sealer. After that, just paint away. It's always turned out well on what I have done.

I've never sanded it "lightly" since it's already been sanded smooth when the drywall was done.

I have always just wiped down the wall and ceiling with a damp towel.

you don't need to sand the primer.

I would suggest you cover the floor very well and wear a hood to keep the paint out of your hair and cover your face as good as you can.

alot of the pro's sand after primer but never in a garage. you won't notice the difference out there anyway. LOL Go for it!
Pros sand after primer? How? What grit paper? I'm going to do it right, even if it is just a garage. I intend to make this a very nice garage. ;)

When I worked sheetrock/mud&tape/paint we just stuck a nail in the end of an air hose but the wet rag would probably work better just little more time we never sanded primer the order was some type of primer them we did stomp texture and the another type of primer stuff and then four coats of paint.

Buy one of those foam mops like you use for a vinyl floor. Easiest way to remove the dust.

The painting is pretty easy, I sprayed my first house. No, I won't help. :p
