How much would you pay for an '85 4-Runner?

Is it SR5?
Stock?
If not what has been done?
Miles? Rebuilt engine?
How much rust?

It can really vary on any or all of those variables, but if it was really clean and stock and under 200k miles with a strong running engine and no problems $1500-$2500 but it all really depends...

oh boy what did you find my friend?
Dad found it, I think he wants it, but I was going to call you later about it.

Its an SR5, 35k on an engine that was rebuilt four years ago. Moderate rust (its an '85), 3 1/2" lift, 23 year old interior. The guy is asking $3250 for it, and I'm inclined to think thats a bit steep, but not sure.

IMO it is a little steep unless they have cleaned it up nice and it was in great condition but if it is just average then it might not be worth it. Have they upgraded to cross over stearing or is it still push/pull, what kind of lift? etc. Ask all the standard questions but I think there are better deals out there but it is hard to give a definate price with out seeing it...

I would say 2,500 tops especially if your dad was going to lift it more since you can get the AllPro SAS kit for about as much as their regular 79-85 kit and wouldn't have to buy a different steering box. Also there are a ton of nice 86 -89 4runners around for 2,000.
