How tall is your workbench?

I'm building a welding table/workbench, and I'm just trying to figure out the height. Measure from the floor to the top of the work surface. Choose the closest option.

I know a guy who built a bench in his shower and made it the height of his wife's inseam.
Don't know if he did any welding on it though...

I think it would depend on what you weld most often. When I weld I like to weld down so I would get a comfortable welding height, subtract about 12" and that's how high I would make a welding table. The rare times you have to weld on something that you can't turn so your weld is facing the top you can always sit on a stool. If you are going to be using it as a workbench and a welding bench then you'll have to compromise.

I cheated in my garage.. I am 6'4" so I like a little higher of a bench but I also like a low bench for welding.. So I actually have 2 heights 36" for putting parts together, the grinder, vice etc.. and 25" for my welding bench... it has worked out well for me though I think I am going to change it as I weld on the floor most often and want more regular use bench space.

There is no right answer. Build one that fits you. I have two in my shop, one that is about waist high and one that is about 6" taller.

I measured something recently that was 38.5. I don't remember what it was though.

My reloading bench is 36" and I sit on a stool at it.
My garage bench is also 36" and buried under 20 years of junk.
My welding table is a piece of 4'X4'X1/2" plate on top of four jack stands.

I'm not entirely sure how tall mine is....I used old steel kitchen cabinets for the base, so it's however tall a typical kitchen cabinet is.

38.5" is THE measurement, however. It's really amazing how many things end up 38.5". It's true, ask Braden.

Lots of stuff! Just pay attention next time you're building something. You'll be working along, and suddenly POW, 38.5".
