I either need a good inexpensive place to service my quad or learn how to do it my self and save a crap load of money. i prefer option numero two, since money can be scarce theses days, especially since i have to pay for school..

Any one have any how to's for oil changes for a 2003 yamaha 660 grizz.

I do not have an owners manual or service manual. It did not come with the machine when i bought it.

This isn't an ATV board.....but that being said I bet someone will have your answer.

Have you tried looking it up in the manual?

It's an offroad forum. It's not dedicated to Jeeps, Toyota's or anything. Hell, the owner of the forum get's on his bikes and posts his trips.

As for the oil change, as I've never worked on an ATV, is it pretty easy to look over the motor area? Maybe find the drain plug by trial and what not.

Otherwise.....Google is your friend!

My bad. I guess the "rockcrawling" portion of the board title, coupled with the hundreds of ATV members rides and the countless thread of ATV tech had me blinded from the truth ;)

the owner of the board also posts builds on his Rat Rod and other stuff--does that count as well?

I'd say that Greg is open to anything that goes "offroad" being that he has that in the title as well ;)

Rat rod.....eh, it end's up in chit chat.

Hard to access motor area so it seems i am going to have to take some plastics off. Trail and error never work well with me. Last time i did that approach, I found my self in the hospital eating food from a blender. JK

I've never touched a Yamaha but I'm willing to bet on the bottom you'll have a hole in your skid plate just large enough to get a socket through and undo the drain plug. ;)

And just perhaps on the opposite end of the engine there might be a cap that says 'Oil' on it. Thats probably were you can fill the engine with oil once you've drained it. Just remember to put the drain plug back in.;)

Best thing to do is to download the service manual. For around $10, or free sometimes, you can download the entire shop service manual to your computer, and it will show you how to do everyting you can imagine maintenance wise. Google it, and check out some Grizz forums, I'll bet you'll find a free one.

Otherwise, South Valley Motorsports is close to you, and there is at least one RME member that works there.

I have a 2002 and a 2004 660 grizz. You will find the drain plug on the bottom of the engine. To access the plug look or feel for a 1" hole in your skid plate. If I remember right it is an allen wrench that is needed. The filter is a spin on type and a can be purchased from your local yamaha dealer. The filler for the oil is located on the left side of the machine under a side panel.

Hope this helps.

Shawn.

You'll want to clean all the grit, etc from around the filter and oil fill cap before doing this to prevent that crap from getting inside.
