How tough is a GoPro?

This weekend I had my GoPro out on the trail. I thought it'd be fun to do some shots from under the truck. I affixed it to my t-case skidplate, upside down. It fell off a few times, but I didn't know why. Now I do.

We couldn't tell when it had fallen off, and it blended in with the rocks. Omgbecki ended up running over it with his TJ (which I didn't know at the time), then I went on to film some underwater scenes at Pittsburgh lake and it worked like a charm, zero issues.

My brother picked up a magnet with a hole in the middle at the Harbor Freight the works perfect for mounting a gopro. Ran all of Rattlesnake and goofed around for a day and it never fell off.

I'll have to try that. The only time my gopro fell off was when I hit a rock underneath. I thought it was vibrating off, but now that I watch the footage, it was definitely scraped off by rocks.

Ok, I am getting one of these now! I wonder if they will be releasing a newer version anytime soon? I have been eyeing these for some time now.

The Hero 2 just came out not to long ago, it's pretty impressive. And you know it's good because it has a 2 in the name.

I was going to say the same thing. They haven;t changed the design, but the Hero 2 isn't too old (probably within 6 months or less).

I've owned the original hero HD (1080p) and I now own the hero 2. The hero 2 is definitely worth the extra price. They now have a wifi bacpac that allows you to activate your gopro from your phone. it's $150 extra, but I was really wishing I had it this weekend.

We used a ton of these on Ultimate Adventure. We had tubing mounts, and the sticker type mounts. We did kill a few, but not too bad. They got drug on stuff, ran over, sand blasted, drowned, etc. I know had to be retired due to a deep lense scratch.

I need a new lens cover (the outer plastic part). There's a video on youtube of a guy skydiving and he dropped his from several thousand feet up. They went and found it an hour or two later and it was still recording.

I want one so bad! But sadly, I really don't do anything cool enough to warrant it. If only these things existed when I was a teenager and did dumb/dangerous/crazy things... I'm just too old and scared of breaking a hip to do anything like that anymore.

Man, I use mine every single weekend. I can't say everyone will find them useful, but I have taken over 300 videos with mine so far.

The bummer about a gopro is that you'll need a computer with a lot of muscle to edit that HD video. I bought a gopro and tried to edit the footage on my 2 year old computer and it couldn't hack it. So I had to save up and get a new computer. So that's a potential extra expense there.
