i have been seriously considering converting Hunters truck from hydraulic to electric, the only real problem is the cost of the batteries for a truck that will not be driven all the time.

If you do this let me know, I want in on the build! I have some ideas on battery packs.

The UVU Automotive department is working on an electric rock crawler. I think they're shooting to take it to SEMA this fall.

There was an electric buggy build back in the day on the PBB but they just did a huge electric motor to an Atlas IIRC. The problem they had was that the whole back of the buggy was basically full of batteries...

Saw a cool Ford roadster that was electric.
The turn off. About 5 grand in batteries alone.

just do what they did on monster garage and run 400+ milwaukee tool batteries, seems cheap enough

Oh did I mention a few grand more for the speed controller if not more.
I used to be huge into wanting to build an electric car but after the research of the $$$$$$$ to put into it.
The very heavy weight of the old school standard batteries vs. The lightweight and expensive lithium new generation batteries.
In the end you could build a very bad ass gas vehicle for less.

A crashed teslow would go to the highest bidder . Never a junkyard.
Same as a lambo, Ferrari, etc.

If you make it to the BBQ on Friday night in the Automotive building, you will be able to see it there. Not sure they will move it down to the show. Suspension is not on yet.

Would be cool to get a peak at it at the car show if they do one this year.

James Wilson and I are starting a project to throw the drivetrain and batteries from a wrecked Nissan Leaf into a CJ7...just tearing into both vehicles right now so stay tuned....gonna be LOTS of engineering to get the gearing right....

Used Leafs are essentially free for what you get. If you can find a good one for a commuter car then they are a steal!!! James was using it as a commuter car and run-about and he loved it until it got totalled. We have been kicking around the idea for a couple years and this was the perfect opportunity.
