Hydraulic Shop Press

I need a press, I used to have a 12 ton Harbor freight around but am leaving it in the shop that I am leaving. I wont need a 20 ton most of the time but I really need the height for axle bearings. This is just for home use, it wont be used all day long.

Pluses
Air over Hydraulic
More use able vertical area
Can use it manually

Negatives
Cost
My compressor probably wont run it to full pressure (but it has a manual mode)
Only 22" wide so it wont support a SWAG press

Probably more to add to either list..... or should I just buy a 20 ton Harbor Freight press?

That one you linked will be significantly nicer than a HF press....but it's also 3x the price. So, how often do you think you'll be using it? If it's just occasional use, get the cheaper one. If you'll use it all the time, then the nicer press and air/hydro will get the nod.

What Carl said. I love having my 20 ton HF press but I rarely use it so it'd be tough to justify anything more on a nicer press.

I'll go look at the harbor freight one and measure it to see if I can get a long axle shaft in it, I know the 12 ton won't work for a long samurai shaft and now I'm running a trail gear samurai offset Tacoma width axle so I'm adding a few inches in shaft length and I want to be able to swap out bearings when I need to. I am not a person that buys a piece of equipment that only will work for some stuff.

My other concern is what kind of quality is the air over hydraulic press, in reality it probably is as good as something HF would sell but is the pump going to last:rolleyes:

How long is the Sammy shaft you're working with? I need to do bearings on Toyota shafts and was looking at the HF 12 ton, but I'll skip it if it's not big enough.

I have some stock samurai shafts and toyota shafts in my trailer that I will be moving today, I will take some pictures and post them.

Thanks for the pics! Happens a fellow posted up a 20ton for sale here on RME this morning, and I snagged it. :D
