I LOVE fry Sauce!!!! No Really, I do!
Good old basic homemade 60/40 tomato product to mayo is my go to sauce.
Sometimes a combo of mayo/miraclewhip adds a little something.
Crown Burger: Some locations use 1000Island dressing (explains the relishy part) some are the basic tomato product/mayo.
I say tomato product because most mass produced sauces use tomato paste and/or sauce. That's why some seem thinner. When my friends own Eat-A-Burger this is how they made it....but they added a secret (Mmmm) ingredient....Liquid Smoke.
Training tables spin, using BBQ is GOOD.
Wing Coop has a good sauce too. Not sure whats in it, suspect it is a mayo base with cajun seasoning. Good and spicey!
Little place in Spanish Fork has a white sauce that is amazing. I wish I could figure out whats in it!! They us it on their grilled ham and cheese too. YUMMY!! I have tried mayo/sourcream in various ratios, but that isn't it.
As someone mentioned, I believe AC adds a little vinegar to theirs.
New kids in Utah, Five guys seems to be sticking with the basic, and I like it!
Millies in Sugar House also has a good basic sauce. Their fries are good to. Real (not frozen) but thin.
Hires is the basic as well, and real fries. Just the right thickness and all good.
The fries are as important as the sauce to me. Though sauce can cover not so good fries. The whole experience is SOOOOO much better with a good fry.
For reference, Hires/Eat-A-Burger/Five Guys are an 8-9 out of 10. MacD's is a 2 at best. Training table is about a 6, only because of the cheese. Without cheese, maybe a 4, but the sauce makes up for it. Millies would be a 7-7.5. Crown and the other Greek places fall about 6. The thick "steak cut" might get you a 6.5 or so. But a frozen fry is NEVER going to get over 7.0, they just don't cut it!!
What does it take to get a 10....A LOT!! I reserve a 10 for a very special fry I have never found outside of homemade. To get a 10 you must first boil/bake the potato to 1/3 to 1/2 cooked, peel it, cut into just under 1/2" thick slices and fry to just the perfect golden brown in only the best vegi oil.
Wow that was long....Mmmmm I think I will make fries tonight!!
