we will find that out on monday. the water pump is not hooked up yet so its only ran for a min tops. its got tuns more power and everything is sealed, and besides a mistake i made (didnt make sure the oil pump shaft was in the pump) everything has gone grate and is now getting 70psi.

ill put money on that this motor will last for a very long time. just need to give it a good brake in before moab..

I hope that this Furd motor does better than the last Furd motor. The poor Scout will not know what to do with itself if the hood is not up at least a couple times a day. Maybe y'all should open up the hood about a half a dozen times a day just for ol' times sake. Just kidding.

with as bad as shape as the heads were in before....if it doesnt stay running now im hauling it to the scrap yard.

There will be no parting it out.....no one needs these problems...lol

It is all 100% rebuilt motor now so it better frieken run

I work monday, tuesday and wednesday so I will have thursday and friday all to the Scout!

Bad news is I have to work on saturday so I will either be heading out saturday night or sunday early morning. (of course depending if the Scout is ready)

List of stuff left to do to actually just wheel....

-grease and oil both axles
-install rear axle
-tear down 2 wheels and tires and try to re seal them better
-get hoses made for front steering
-bleed front steering
-either lock out rear steer or hook it up (still cant decide)
-bleed brakes
-finish welding anti-wrap bar
-misc. gussets and welding and paint
-reinstall boat sides and skid plate
-figure out whats wrong with shifter (besides the fact its a B&M)
-make heat shield for muffler
-limit straps for the front
-build perches for the air bumps

Thats all I can think of for now. Mitch.....anything else????

Besides the steering, everything else can be done in a matter of hours (If all goes somewhat well) so I might have a FULL day I could devote to rear steering. I just think it might be almost as much work to lock it out as it would be to hook it up

It is just my opinion and all but, I think that I would just lock the rear steer in place. The reasons are because you will have enough on your plate as it is and never mind that most of this is just a last minute thrash fest just to get it ready. I fear that you would be tempted just to throw the rear steer together and you may have more problems because of that. If you don't have the time to do it right the first time when will you have time to do it over again? Never mind that fact that if something was to go wrong with the rear steer while driving to the trail head who know what would happen. Just my .02.

The rear steer is a very simple setup. Power steer pump to solenoid, solenoid to ram. wire solenoid to toggle switch for control. There is not much to it since I wont be doing a return to center yet.

I do however completely understand what you mean. My plan to lock it out is to install a tube where the ram would normally sit. So if there is a problem no sweat, I can lock it out.

And the driving to the trail head thing......ya....about that. I dont know if UHP is going to let me get away with it

Can you make a way to lock it out quickly and easily with removing the ram?

Some way to pin it for road use, then remove pin for offroad?

Cheston, let's talk sometime after EJS.
I have a return to center setup in the works that's pretty straight forward and would work in conjunction with the rear steer components that you already have. I'd like to hear what you had in mind too.

lol

My plan was to copy your setup. I am definatally not smart enough to come up with one on my own

When you see it, you'll be surprised at how simple it actually is.
I may even have some leftover material for you to build your own. You should be able to add the return to center feature to your existing setup for < $40.

I have some pics on my home computer. I'll post them up in my buildup thread tonight. Basically, it's a "cam" that attaches to the knuckle (king pin cap) and activates 2 limit switches. If you have time to fab up some switch brackets before EJS you're welcome to use my "cam". Wiring is straight forward too.

Thanks Nate!

Im sure I wont have time to mess with it before EJS but sometime this summer I will have to drag the Scout down to your neck of the woods and you can show me whats up.

The motor is running good now and seems to be staying cool. The front steering is hooked up and working. Mitch got the other 2 wheels torn down and resealed. Its getting closer all the time! But so is EJS

well Im home from work for the day so Im working on the Scout til its ready and leaving then.

Dont have a lot to do.

Rear steer is hooked up and working. Just need to button up the wiring.

Limit straps are on, air bump perches are done.

Things left to do before I leave;
-grease front axle and install new boots
-bolt on doors and boatsides
-finish welding tab for rear ram
-put the 46s on and air them up (and pray they dont leak to bad again)
-install winch
-install grille
-do a major bolt check to see whats loose
-go over all welds to see what was missed
-adjust one tie rod on the rear axle
-see if I can make some sort of ghetto mud flaps
-drive it around the block and on to the trailer!

Not to bad of a list. Hopefully I can get a few hours of sleep tonight and head out in the morning.

Wish me luck!
