I think that I have said it here before but, if I have not then here it is. "If you don't have the time (or money) to do it right the first time then when will you have the time (or money) to do it again." Everybody had done exactly what you have done and, hopefully, we learn from our mistakes and pickup the pieces and move on. That is life. Let me rephrase that, this is the life, the life we all enjoy. F-O-U-R-W-H-E-E-L-I-N-G!! So, wipe the blood trickle from you nose and get it fixed.

This is exactly the point!!! And the reason that my truck hasn't been to Moab in.... gulp.... 2 years!!! Just keep on it and you will definitely be happy with the results!
And as far as the backfire on Hell's Revenge.... was that before or after you throttled out of the hot tub?
Stick with it... it will be worth it!!

It all came back to me when I woke up this morning. The backfire wasnt on Hells Revenge.

It was on the dirt road leading to Behind the Rocks. The very beginning of the trail. So that means I just ran that trail on 7

Well if that is all then, Stupid Scout. I still chuckle to myself when I think about all the problems you had with the last Ford motor that you went ahead and installed a new one and yet, the rules have changed but the game is still the same. Different motor, different problems but still having problems. You know.................... I will have a new 360 Dodge for sale. Just kidding Bro.

or leave them stock and reliable:p i never had any problems with a ford motor..
and really its not the motor's fault. the old one had shitty redone heads, ran for 5 mins or so with no oil at all, over hearted who knows how many times, ran very well for being two teeth off the timing chain, broken distributer, warped manifold that was blowing coolant in the intake port, all this and more AND STILL RAN GOOD.

this new motor problem is only one problem that in my book is crane cam's fault for not being specific on what push rob to use and that stock's wont work. i dont like roller tips. never have to chincy and now you all see why. lol

to be honest im shocked how tough the 460 is.
and im not just saying that cus im a ford guy. i would love to see any other motor go through what the first one went through and see how it turned out.

BroncoMitch, Not to pick a fight or anything but there were 8 other motors that went through the same thing as the Scouts 460 did and I am unaware of any problems with them. (due to not knowing them personally). Warthog used a Chevy motor as did the Avalanche buggy, Randy's Chevy, Hobys Willys, and the Weapons Chassis. In fact even Byron runs a GM motor. The Jeep CJ 5 ran a 4BT Cummins and the only other motor out there was a Ford in a Bronco. I don't think he had any motor problems. Case in point I was just poking fun at Ches for all the little headaches his Ford motors seem to cause him.;) Nothing personal, just giving him and now you a hard time.;) I appologize if it came out different.:(

LT is stirring that pot.

Not intentionally. Just pointing out that if the Ford was so good then why did he sell his Ford tow rig (powered by an International) and then buy a Dodge with a Cummins? I am patiently waiting for him to admit that the Dodge is better than the Ford. But, I don't see it happening anytime soon if ever.;)

he sold his truck to drop his payment. he is saving 300 bucks a month. and we both miss the powerstroke allot. the dodge turns a LOT sharper and rides way nice..but with all the up grades that dodge has to it, it didnt feel much different the the 7.3 was with the programer.

and none of those motors went through the same things the first 460 did, besides ttc, Randy's motor got swamped and wouldn't start most of the time and when it did start it barley ran at all. Clayton's motor just overheated cus his fans where not on. thats it. im not butt hurt over this or anything lol just making conversation.:chris:
all im saying, let me drain your oil and run your motor for a few mins, take out your distributer and smash it up, and rotate your timing gear two teeth and smack a few valves with a hammer and over heat it 6 or 8 times and lets see how the motor dose lol any takers? :)

I dropped 3 valves on my 454 and other than those valves, didn't wreck anything.

My 460 dropped a valve HEAD into the cylinder, and cracked everything.

... I'm gonna stick with Chevy. :D

I watched two guys break their 302 BLOCKS in half.

We could go all day long. It doesn't matter. :D People like what they like, for a million reasons.

Guideplate issues are an assembly problem, not a manufacturer reliability issue. I was perfectly happy with the 130,000mi I abused a 351 through, and I've been perfectly happy with the 500,000mi I've put 350's through as well.

I like my Sally (the dually) because I don't think there is a better Diesel motor out there than the Cummins (at least in a light truck). I like the motor in the Beater because it just runs, everytime, all the time, and starts right away. That being said BroncoMitch has a point when it comes to stock motors, they are more reliable than any modified motor that I know of. However I also happen to agree with Tacoma on some points. Everybody is going to like what they like for a millon reasons. I have yet to have any problems with a Dodge motor. I have blown a few Chevy motors up and I also have blown a few Ford motors up. But, I do prefer Chevy to Ford but I like the Dodge the best (for now anyways).

I thought I would post some of my experiences, we run Ford, GM, and Dodge in our business and have had good luck with all of them. I prefer Ford. We have a '76 f350 460 with 250,000 miles on the original engine, We also use a '83 chev 1 ton with a 454 that has believe it or not over 600,000 miles its on its 4th engine it also burns propane. I drive a '76 Dodge with a 440 as my daily commuter from Lehi to Sandy everyday that I love but it isnt nearly as good of a truck as the Ford or Chev but I love it. A few years ago it dropped a valve shattered the piston and from all that pressure cracked the cylinder the whole length of the cylinder and bent the rod. We also have 4 Superdutys that have been great. With a hole bunch of other Fords GM's and Dodges that have been bought and worked then sold over the years. Overall they have all been good trucks.

Alright let's get back on track. :D

I just assume that you would use hardened pushrods w/guideplates, so tell me: did the instructions make any mention of that??? Is this a case of crappy instructions (in which case we can gnash our teeth at the manufacturer), or an oversight on your part (in which case we can giggle and point at you :D )?

Regarding roller rockers, I'm all for them. Reduced friction is better, and there is a TON of friction using stock rockers. Roller tips, roller pivots, both, it's all better. :D

I am a big fan of your Scout.... I can't wait until you decide to narrow it and make it lower. :D
