Iceland

I'm curious, has anyone ever been to Iceland? I've long been interested in the place (ever since I read Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising as a kid), and since my trip to Australia in October, by desire to travel is insatiable. Round trip flights to Reykjavik are relatively cheap at around $1200, and I think that a tour with Arctic Trucks would be amazing. That, along with driving Route 1, are on the top of my list of things to do. I'd love to hear any other suggestions from people who have been there.
Not sure when this trip would happen. Probably summer 2015, but who knows, could be this summer if things fall into place.

Iceland & Greenland are on my short lists. Scott B. & Greg are great point of references for Iceland. Perhaps we can rent the E7 AT44 when it get's back that way? I'm serious about planning a trip there for 2015.

Nothing constructive to add Stephen, but I am also very interested in going some day! I think a trip out in the at44 like Kurt mentioned would be epic! I have the travel bug too and make some sort of a journey every year. Iceland is a must do in my eyes.

I went to Iceland to and from Greenland this summer. I was in Iceland for about 10 days. What a beautiful place to visit. Everything is really expensive, but it is worth it. A very fun atmosphere. Everything there is tailored to tourists. Any Hostel you stay in will have a million brochures for tours to do, like the ice jeeps(lang cruisers), glacier walks, sightseeing, everything kind of activity you can think of. Fly into Reykjavik and then rent a car and then circle the whole island. I think that is what I would do next time. There is also the very best hotdog stand in the entire world in Reykjavik. It is small, but really worth stopping at.

Some Hostels allow for camping out back and some don't. If sleeping in a nice warm bed I would recommend KEX, or the backpacker hostel. Both offer a cool vibe and are clean.

Eggs will be about 9-12 dollars per dozen so plan accordingly :)

Good info, thanks Davey. I figured it'd be pretty pricey, but I'm OK with that. Renting a car and driving Route 1 all around the island would be epic. But an AT44 would be more so. ;)

Iceland has been on my top three since I was a kid. I want to go really bad :D

I agree renting a car and traveling route 1 would be awesome. I'm not much of a people/crowds/party person so surprisingly enough I've always wanted to experience the Reykjavik nightlife.

The nightlife is crazy. Really crazy. I can't even type it on a family friendly forum.

My Bro in Law was stationed in Iceland for a couple years. They loved it there.

Iceland is probably the only place in the world I really want to go to.

I've never heard of this before. Interesting. I guess I've spent my time dreaming about not being in the city and hadn't spent that much time thinking about party time in the capitol.

I mean no offense, but that's kinda sad. The world is full of interesting places. I don't think I'll get to all the places I want to go to before I die, simply because there isn't enough time and there is always something new to discover over the next horizon and around the next bend.

Ya....little sad I guess.

I do enjoy traveling, Hawaii is the farthest away Ive been. Places like Europe just have never interested me. There are plenty of amazing places to see in America that I dont need to spend thousands of dollars to get to.

It could be just because Im poor folk and could never afford these type of vacations.....so mentally I tell myself I dont want to go. :p

I'd only go if Stephen is going, you need at least one socialist in a group when you travel abroad.
