I really ought to stop speeding, it's getting harder and harder to fork over my money to the city. Oh and just so you know Salt lake county sheriff's office is shooting laser now. I miss the good old days when K band was there best weapon.

I think with laser, you better have someone in front of you speeding :) Not even sure how effective a radar is in warning a vehicle following a speeding vehicle. Not to much bleeding of the laser beam.

Laser and pop radar are a *****. I think the nicer the radar/laser detector you own, the more likely you may be to get a ticket. More of a false sense of security than anything.

I've had a good one in the past, but I can't say that it ever really saved me from any tickets. Hard to say I guess. I don't do a ton of speeding though. I try to keep it about 10% over the speedlimit on the freeway.

There is truth to that. That valentine 1 is awesome on the freeway and road trips and has saved me there but more and more cops are shooting laser and that gives you almost no warning to slow down.

I may still have the state record for points-- 375, thanks to speeding all over SC, WV, NY, and TN. 90% of those were for <10 over the posted limit, and almost all of them were in tiny towns in the middle of nowhere. :(

Very expensive to do that kind of thing. Lucky for me, I was in the Avenues, home for the winter when my license was suspended for 3mos.

I came back from a trip to Kentucky once only to find a letter saying my license was suspended from excess points. I hadn't had a ticket in 4 years (and it was just a 5 over speeding ticket at that) so I called the DMV and they told me I had 4 tickets in the last week--2 in WJ and 2 in Ogden--and that I had to call the courts to sort it out.

Long and short of it, it took me about 3 hours on the phone trying to work around the court system before I found the right info. Somehow, 4 different drivers had been given speeding tickets and by some random magic they ended up on my record. I had to produce evidence that I was out of town (even though the names on all of the violations were not mine--plus they were women, which I am not) then they wanted me to come down for a reinstatement interview at the DMV before they would give me back my license, and pay some reinstatement fee. I was this close to breaking my cardinal rule of politeness to CS people---there was no way I was taking time out of my life to go to an interview and paying a few to reinstate a license that shouldn't have been taken away. It was their error.

at any rate, ya that was lame.

WOW. It's amazing how easy it is for them to screw you up, but even when it's OBVIOUS that you are not the guy, YOU have to jump through hoops for 13 hours trying to sort it all out.

If you only take one thing away from this thread, take this:

DO NOT speed in Magna, Kearns, Millcreek Township, White City, Copperton Township, Emigration Canyon, Parleys Canyon, or I-80 by Saltair.

All speeding tickets from these areas (and the rest of unincorporated Salt Lake County) are filed in the Salt Lake County Justice Court (2100 S. State Street).

You do not want to be before the judge who handles speeding tickets there.
Trust me.

I had to buy slow cars to break my habit. I had my license suspended for points a long time ago. I miss driving fast, but now I stay pretty much to the speed limit. It sure is a lot cheaper and less stressful.

That's why I've never gotten a WRX or any other fast car that I want. I don't have very good self-control :D So I get a Tacoma, which I love, that won't go as fast (especially not in rush hour :D) My wife always gets mad at me when I drive HER Civic, because I drive it like it's a race car (as she says).

I never speed in my company truck (my only vehicle right now) but if a cop ever gets a beam on my while on the motorcycle I'm going to jail for a long time...no tickets, straight to jail!!

I haven't had a speeding ticket in probably 5 years and I have been lucky to never get hooked up on the bike!! I have a stack of used motorcycle tires in my living room worn down to the cords to attest to my need for speed.
