I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if it were a variable pitch prop, that would add a lot of unnecessary weight and complexity. I'm sure he's just reversing the electric motor.

Yeah, it wouldn't be very efficient rotating backwards, but just reversing the motor would produce that result. Now if it were a glow motor it would be real impressive. :eek: He is an excellent pilot. Some of the less impressive maneuvers he did are extremely difficult!

You cant just run a prop in reverse and reverse the thrust (although you may get some). They are actually airfoils that create lift not just a flat blade moving air.

Why it said it wouldn't be efficient. ;) It would work, just not very well.

Yeah, it's not as efficient but that doesn't matter. You're forgetting that even with a variable pitch prop you're still using the back side of the blade to push air.

That variable pitch prop you posted has a symmetrical airfoil, so it's equally inefficient either direction. :)
