intro

just wanted to take a second and say Hi to everyone. I just experienced my first "real" 4x4 trip this weekend. Thanks Doug and Brit for taking me, it was awesome. Doug did a great job of pushing me and my stock 99 montero sport to its its limits, or should I say my limits. Correct me if I am wrong Brit, but i think the trails we did were the following: Nerds Gate, Klonyke Bluffs trail, Baby Lions Back, Fins and Things, Baby lions back again (didnt seem so big or steep this time after doing fins) and sunday was Poison Spider (I even did the wedgie). What a great time! I was very surprised what that Montero Sport can do. Everything is Stock, The tires were replaced about 10,000 miles ago with the Yokohama SuperDiggers that came stock on it. I cant wait to get a rear dif locker and see what it can really do. I look forward to playing in more this summer up in American Fork and 5 mile pass areas, or anywhere I find that might interest me.

Anyway looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Spencer

Hi Braden

I thought about changing that user name, but i use it for everything, so i didnt. Anyway I am the vice cahir for the timpanogos grotto www.caves.org/grotto/timpgrotto in utah county. I purchased my Montero to get to some of the high caves in Utah like Monte Carlo for instance. I met Doug and Brittany, (who attend the Salt Lake Grotto, who i bleieve are both officers up there,) from caving. I am also the training officer for the Utah Cave Search and Rescue.

Welcome. Tell me about your user name. Are you a caver? To you attend any of the local grottos?

I'm not an officer, but Doug (shmoesmith) is vice chair for the SL grotto. Tigerstripe40 is also a member of the SL grotto. Anyone else from the Wasatch Grotto on RME?

yes, he is your dad, he surveyed a lot of Little Brush. I have spent a lot of time pushing that cave and trying to add to the survey the last few years. I have exchanged several emails with him regarding it, however I am not sure I have ever met him other than perhaps at a Regional.

fyi: pics will come later tonight. we got back from Moab late last night, so we'll have to post them after work..

I went to a cave with some Wasatch grotto members way back before I was on RME. who's the guy with the really sweet sammy? is he on RME by any chance?

Maybe we should do a caver 4x4 trip.

Describe the Sammy. Is it red?

I thought it was orange, but I could be wrong. it was a few years ago. I know it was locked front and rear, and I think he fabbed up his own body armor.

Could be Kerry Halls. His is red, locked, and really well done. I think he registered on here a month or two ago, but I don't think he's posted yet.

Scott Alden might be on this list. He is not too active of a caver but I know he has done some Rock Crawling competitions in the past. does that name ring a bell?

Also, I dont remeber the last name, Allen something, was good friends with Scott, they both had titanium rapell racks. We went to Monte Carlo Cave on an late night trip. It was near midnight when we rigged the cave, we got pretty lost on the hike down from the cave, we found a mine with some bobcat scat in it that scared us pretty good. I didnt get home until after 7:30 am and I supose to be at work at 7. obivously I called in sick that day when I finally got home.
Do either of those names ring a bell? They were both pretty active in Rock Crawling at the time, probably 3-4 years ago.

I don't know too many people outside the SL grotto, so no for me. I know there were a lot of people at the spring BOG last year, but I was too busy being hostess to really chat. :-\

It's more than a 20 minutes drive for us. More like an hour in rush hour traffic. :p
