Hey guys, My name is Tyson I'm originally from Utah and recently picked up my first Jeep. Its a 79' CJ7 304/T150, Dana 30 front, AMC 20 rear with one piece axle conversion kit. I've been checking out the site for awhile now and though I'd say hello. Now for the questions-

I've been having some interesting problems with my engine lately. Somedays it'll warm up just fine and then be alright. other days it'll take about 30 minutes to warm up and then drive like complete s**t all day long. It'll sputter when I give it gas on the freeway.

I just rebuilt the motorcraft 2100 carb about 2 weeks ago which helped out substantially with the stalling. I was thinking about taking it to a mechanic and wondered if anyone know of a good mechanic that might know more about AMC/Jeep engines?

thanks in advance.

First of all welcome!

I am going to take two guesses on the warm up issue. The first is the choke may be sticking or not opening properly. Easy enough to check is to just remove the filter and see what position the butterfly valve is it when it is working normally and good, versus when it is not working so good.

And my second guess (and I guess this because it happend to me) is that the distributor advance is not working right. Mine was a hit and miss where most of the time it was no problem, then sometimes it would run terrible at 2000+ rpm.

So there are two things to think about that may be the problem.
