Is the Fashion Place Sears still open?

No. I had a service call for that Sears a couple weeks ago. I went to that Sears & saw an empty store. My call was actually for the new Sears Appliance across from it on State St.

I think Home Depot put a hurtin' on 'em, and Target and Walmart finished it. There's still a Sears at Jordan Commons I think, but they don't have near as good a tool department. And driving in or around Jordan Commons makes me stabby anyway.

I don't think those stores had anything to do with it. Sears is huge, bigger than Target, but surprisingly (or not) a lot of their efforts are being put in to their online presence. We even sell through their online store. There's not a close HD, Target, or Walmart to that location that closed, yet all three of those are very close to the Jordan Landing store and it's not closing. I think they had just outgrown Fashion Place, or more likely Fashion Place has outgrown them. FP is growing so fast and trying to change their image, I think it was a matter of Sears either doing a complete make-over of that location or move on so FP could do the make-over.

The sears in fashion place was actually profitable. The real estate it was sitting on was incredibly valuable though. They closed it to free up the real estate investment.

Having watched the stock market for a good number of years and following business, Sears has been hurting for years. They've got problems with their business model and leadership. My friend's father took a stock beating when they went bankrupt the last time.

It doesn't help that their website sucks. If any businesses impacted them I'd say they'd be Walmart, Amazon, and... wait for it.... Sears. They didn't adapt to the times and now they're so far behind. Treading water isn't helping.

Heh, EVERYONE is affected by Walmart and Amazon. However, Amazon lost money last year, and Walmart has made it no secret that they are hurting this year (currently down $33B ). So, while Sears may not be doing outstanding, I don't think that directly affected their choice to close the Fashion Place location.

I don't have any numbers about this, but that's exactly what I figured. Fashion Place is pushing hard to renew it's image and that HUGE property Sears was at is serious money.

The Sears by my place tried to go head to head with the Walmart down the road and failed miserably. They decided to change it to a Kmart and that isn't doing any better. Walmart is kicking everybodies butt.

they were closing before the holidays, they didn't participate in any black friday sales. i bought a few things there and casier told me FP was buying them back.

i assume they're gutting it and plan to teardown and rebuild or allow another department stor to move in.

FWIW the tools never went below 30% MSRP, not the good stuff anway.
