Is there a need for these in the 4X4 community??

I didn't like it at first by the look of it but after watching the video I think it could be usefull, maybe save some U-joints or axle shafts. I though it would just drop the shaft when it broke but it stays up. I like that. I don't think I'd ever get one but it might be helpfull.

I know warren has fuseable hub components. Granted, it is only effective for your fron driveline, but it would make you feel better about romping on the gas...

a setup like the above would fit nicely on a samurai betwine the trany and t-case... you just have to figure out exactly how much torq you want it to break at...

well my opinion about stuff like this is why??? So you are telling me you are building you rig to break??? same goes for the hub fuses made by warn...I would rather build it to not break and carry spares incase I do...I will put money that a new u-joint or maybe even a new shaft (unless its a custom deal and it should be breakin then anyways) will cost less then this setup...plus how often do you see guys draggin their drivelines along the rocks as they climb??? I could se this being something to snag on the rocks and also shear the bolts off when you drag them on a rock...

I bet you couldn;t get anything weak enoughfor a sammi since this is designed for large trucks...:D:p

IMO:p

I don't know? Do you think that it would be usefull? What is the difference between changing a u-joint and those fuses?

the difference is the shaft stay on the vehicle...but I wouldn't want to climb under a vehicle that has no shaft(so to speak) to change a fuse when its on a precarious angle...but it would be easier to drive on a break...

What about that cardboard driveshaft I saw on here? Seems like you could design it to unwrap when overtorqued.

Just look out for water. However the treehuggers would love it. Hmm...biodegradeable jeep parts.

your missing the point of these fuses... when they do give way, the drivelines don't just fall down.. they still stay up, one side just spins inside the other... you don't have to worry about turning a driveshaft into a pogo stick anymore.

well no, the point is so you dont damamge more expensive parts...but again...why build your rig to break...I have seen a ton of drive shafts break and none have been at high speeds...it usually doesn;t happen at high speeds...if you are qorried about your drive shaft becoming a pogo stick just put a driveline hoop in...:D

I ran those on the transport truck I drove. The CAT engine would through the drive line if I had to start off on a big hill load with the track hoe. All I had to do is put in more bolts and try it again. In one year it saved the company about 2300.00
