ISP's good/bad

So what ISP's are you guys using? I have comcast right now but at almost $90 a month I'm pretty sure I can get something cheaper and I don't even know what my speed is at since it's my wife that set it up.

I am not a gamer but we do watch a lot of Netflix and Hulu since we don't have cable anymore.

My problem is when I start looking on other companies websites they of course won't tell you how much they charge, they won't tell you how much you can use before they throttle you back and just stupid stuff like that so I'm hoping to get some input on pricing as well as how good your service is.

Most people (myself included) on here will say that Comcast is going to be the best as far as speed goes, but one of the worst as far as customer service goes. I know a few people have their business class service which is supposed to help on the customer service side of things. I have Clear 4g right now, and it is spotty at best, and still costs ~$60 a month. Honestly, I am thinking hard about going back to Comcast, and spending the few extra dollars a month for the business class.

I'm using Comcast, but I pay $77 a month for Comcast business class (I work from home - Internet is vital). Instead of dropping Comcast for someone else let me suggest you call them and ask what their cheapest Internet option is. IIRC, when I had Internet, basic cable (the $20 a month one), and VOIP phone I was paying less than $90 a month total. That's one thing about Comcast, their pricing is kinda random. A deal one day may be gone or better the next. 6 month for price X, 12 months for price Y. I recently upgraded from limited basic to a better package. I called to get quotes. Compared the rates, thought about what I wanted, checked what channels I wanted based on shows I want to watch. When I called back a couple days later I spoke to someone else who gave me different prices. This person also told me to call back in 6 months to re-up the promo-price ($25/month) expired - he said when I call back if the person I speak to doesn't give me the same or a similar deal to just hang up and call back and talk to someone different.

We've got Comcast, in some kind of hybrid business bundle w/cable, internet, and VOIP, and it's been really awesome. Couple issues in the beginning but no issues whatsoever in over a year. Those that we had earlier were temporary outages (20-60min) of an unspecified nature-- I would guess that was while they were ramping up local infrastructure, but I'm only guessing.

There are cheaper alternatives I suppose but we needed a reliable system for my wife's work, and we've been pretty pleased so far.

EDIT: We re-upped and kept whatever low intro price we had, something under $90/mo if I remember.

I have Digis... I have at least 2 outages a week for around 2+ hours. Customer service is polite and apologizes that their "engineers" are working on the issue and that others have reported the outage and there is nothing that can be done but wait. I would get comcast but we move in 20 days so its just not worth the hassle right now but will have comcast in 20 days :)

Looks like I might just have the wife get a hold of comcast to try to knock down a tier or something. I have no complaints as far as my service is concerned, I can't remember the last time our internet didn't work and I suppose that says something for comcast.

This is really the key for me. I've had issues with their hardware, my residential class router and modem would require occasional reboots but the business class modem has been stable. Very few true outages since I switched from Qwest DSL to Comcast a few years ago, and due to my job I'm online from 7am to 4pm M-F at a minimum for work. Throw in considerable other online time between myself, the wife, and the kids... I'm not a fan of Comcast, but around here they really are the best option I know of.

On the website they are advertising $40 a month for their economy 3mb line (probably too slow if you do a lot of downloading and for netflix/hulu streaming), $30 a month for 6 months for 25mb, and the normal non-special price for 50mb speeds is only $75. You say you don't have cable TV anymore, so unless you have VOIP or one of the new ridiculously fast connections I'm guessing you are just still on an older price model. That's the thing with Comcast, even if they lower the price for the service you are getting you still have to call them for the new lower price or they keep charging you at the old rate.
