Don't blame Bush for that one, blame Rep Sensenbrenner, F. James, Jr. from Wisconsin and that's not what it says. HR 3402 makes changes to the communications act of 1934 and is designed to prevent "cyberstalking". annoyance(1934)=Harass and intimidate(2006) the powers given to local law enforcement under the revisions of CALEA this will make it easier for law enforcement to gain access to the information.

yeah he signed it, but it was buried in some other legislation that is actually not bad, look up hr 3402 and read it. Read section I think 247 of the communications act it will make better sence. it is only extending the same protection given for phone calls to the internet and voip phone calls. but there is no way to regulate the internet so it really is a moot point.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Buried deep in the new law is Sec. 113, an innocuously titled bit called "Preventing Cyberstalking." It rewrites existing telephone harassment law to prohibit anyone from using the Internet "without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy."

Hmmm

Last I heard ANYONE can run for office and WALK NOT TALK...

Oh but that right... its WAY more involved being the armchair quarterback.

Here is my take, politicians are guys just like you and me, mabey they had more money, mabey not. But if you havn't at least tried to insert yourself into a position to make change (be it City Council, local government, citizen advisory committe, a 4WD club presidency, a BLM council, NRA, MADD, PETA, Meat Eaters, Demo, Rep, Lib, Gay club, etc). Than who are you to critisize the work of those that do? You are a leach... IMHO

We are free to judge politicians, but if you don't like the way things are going, do something about it but ***** on a 4x4 board.

Join a campaign for some Demo that has a bitchin' exit strategy...
Join SUWA and shut some trails down...
Sit at capitol hill and cry about the deaths of soldiers that WILLINGLY joined the war...

Do something, but don't *****...

I got involved with the U4WDA because I didn't like the unfavorable changes being made to OUR public lands. Did I pull the armchair quarterback position and ***** about "why isn't the U4WDA doing xxx" (as some have), did I complain about the closures that the Clinton/Gore regime instigated while having ZERO intention of action on my enthusiasm. The answer is no...

I could give a flying whootinanny less who you support in office, what your political alliances happen to be, or what your thoughts on gun control are... But I am not going to lie to you and tell anyone that doesn't get involved that I have a single stich of repect for them... None.

Yes, thats to say I have more respect for a SUWA member than a wheeler that won't even sacrafice a measly couple bucks to join a local or national advocate on their behalf (Usa-All, BRC, U4WDA, UFWDA, etc. take your pick).

Here is the exact text I don't see "FLAME" anywhere nor "ANNOY":

SEC. 113. PREVENTING CYBERSTALKING.
(a) IN GENERAL.—Paragraph (1) of section 223(h) of the Communications
Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 223(h)(1)) is amended—
(1) in subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘and’’ at the end;
(2) in subparagraph (B), by striking the period at the
end and inserting ‘‘; and’’; and
(3) by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:
‘‘(C) in the case of subparagraph (C) of subsection
(a)(1), includes any device or software that can be used
to originate telecommunications or other types of communications
that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by
the Internet (as such term is defined in section 1104 of
the Internet Tax Freedom Act (47 U.S.C. 151 note)).’’.
(b) RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.—This section and the amendment
made by this section may not be construed to affect the meaning
given the term ‘‘telecommunications device’’ in section 223(h)(1)
of the Communications Act of 1934, as in effect before the date
of the enactment of this section.

This Section 223 only applies to communications within the district of columbia and Interstate traffic.

Thats great that you feel that way. I feel that if I have paid my taxes (yes) and voted (yes) then I have every right to voice my opinion. While this may come across as bitching to you, I am just expressing a different view point from yours.

BTW, my USA-All membership form is in the mail, as of yesterday, and I have participated in several events that support issues that I believe in. I am only a partial "armchair quarterback" :D

I applaud your efforts, in no way were my comments aimed solely at you, rather at anyone that may fit in my description. I have the same argument with my freinds that complain about the war, yet have never done a single thing out of the ordinary to try and make a difference, no student government, no Wal-Mart hate meetings, nothing... disgraceful.
