It looks as though me and my woman both have tomorrow off.
We want to take our new toy out for a spin.

Anybody been out there recently ?

Not sure if its gated and if there is a gate is it open ?

Any idea on how much snow, if any ?

1 last thing, I have maps etc.. but they dont show any parking at the trailhead outside of stockton. Is there enough room for me to park my truck and trailer there ?

Pic of new toy...

Just go into Stockton. Turn east at the Sinclair on main st.
Follow that road to the trail head. It turns to dirt about half way up from main st.
It also winds around a bit, but just stay on that road.
There is plenty of room at the trail head to park a trailer etc...

Theres also a large sign with a trail map on it etc...

The lower loop is in good shape. The upper loop had alot of snow and mud on it. Im sure its getting better by the day with this weather though.

Theres a couple of spots where it is going to be tight in a Jeep but should still be passable. In the RZR it was no problem.

The day I went it was still pretty cold so we just ran it pretty quick and headed home. It would be much more enjoyable in nice weather...

We went out there yesterday. There is plenty of parking area at the trailhead. We made it all the way to the upper part of Jacob City, there was a lower then an upper part. There was still snow alongside the road where we made it to, but the trail was clear. A coouple mud puddles was all. I took my 84" wide Jeep up it no issues. A couple of the switchbacks were pretty tight.

couple pics i snapped..

if you take the stockton way, i can guarantee you there's still snow up there and you may not make it to jacob city. go the ophir way (its a neater drive anyway)

the get there turn at the ophir turnoff from hwy 73 and there will be a dirt parking area on your left just after the cattle guard. you can off load there or just past that is a dirt rd with a smaller parking area, you can offload there too.

then to get to jacob city just foolow that dirt rd to the north east for quite a ways, then you'll come to a Y the left will take you to the top and the right will take you to jacob city. you'll know if your on the right rd if it's narrow and rocky.

if you'd like i could probably PM you the GPX file.

I was up there for the first time last weekend. I saw no snow at all all the way in to a fork in the road overlooking the valley, tho there was a little runoff in the road itelf. Snow was visible on the higher slopes. You can easily get your truck and trailer into the trailhead, it's buffed gravel the whole way.

We didn't go any farther because both branches from that fork were signed for ATV/Mtn bikes/Horses, but not rigs. Is is legal to take my truck beyond that point?

ETA - this fork: 40.386724,-112.27982.

Took my jeep up on 6-10-11, We went up from the bottom, trail clear all the way to jacob and up to the cabin, to much snow to make it over to bus canyon.
