Ok will when i was driveing my Jeep Truck around and was trying to take off from a light my clutch goes out and it has no pressure to work. i pull off to the side and look if there is clutch fluid and it is bone dry i drive it to my house and put fluid in it and pump it a little. it got hard for a little then lost all preesur and was the same i try it again and the same thing i look under the truck and see fluid under the trans and is driping from in side the bell houseing. it is a 87 MJ with the 2.5l motor and the 4 speed trans. i dont know how the clutches are set up on them so i thought i would ask to see if any one could tell me what it could be or what i need to do to fix it.

I need to get it fixed ASAP because it went out right when a guy was test driveing it to buy it  so if you know what it could be or think you know what it could be let me know thanks

You've got yerself a bad slave cylinder. Not sure on the MJs whether they are internal, or external. Prolly internal, meaning you gotta pull the trans. Aint a cheap part, either. Enjoy. I've been there... :(

clutch problem

Mr. MJ, Rockmonkey is right, its the slave cylinder. :-\

I had the same thing happen, except, mine would hold a little more fluid for longer. i went a whole month driving it and periodically stopping and toppin it off. probly went through $20 worth of brake fluid. then in the middle of an intersection, it went out. then i decided to fix it :D. its an internal slave cylinder and it cost me $94 from autozone. pull the tranny and throw a new one in there. id change the clutch/pressure plate too ;).

Good luck with whatever you will do with it. sucks it had to happen!

I remember reading somewhere (I think in 4wheeler or 4wheel&offroad) that regular brake fluid will dissolve the seals in Jeep clutch master and slave cylinders (especially slave cylinders!). The article said you need to get clutch fluid from Mopar, and you'll stop going through so dang many cylinders.
