Jeep Electrical Problem

I was wondering if any of you guys have seen this problem before or know where is should ask about it? The electrical problem is on a 1999 Jeep TJ Sahara Wrangler with an auto trans. Here are the crazy things that it is doing; when you push the brake the odometer blacks out and the front signal lights light up; when you turn on the left turn signal the odometer flashes to; and the dash had once completly black out while driving. The only modifications that were done to the jeep was the installation of a stereo(with an amp and sub) and a body lift. The stereo is about two years old and lift is almost a year. We did not notice anything strange until about six months ago. Any ideas on what to check to diagnose the problem would also be appreciated.

that's freakin awesome! but if you want to fix it (i don't see why, it's a good conversation starter) then answer us two questions. 1) did a professional install the stereo and amp? 2) goes the problem happen when a) the stereo is on, b) the stereo is off, or c) both. that's should narrow it down to the stereo/amp's fault or just some whack electrical problem.

I don't know if this would apply, but I used to have problems with parts of my dash shorting out. I had a stereo installed in mine that caused a few mysterious problems which I managed to clear up. Then after my 4Runner (and stereo) were stolen, I started having my dash short out on occasion.

It turned out that there was a loose hot wire running directly from the battery to over my feet while I was driving.  I didn't notice it until I was driving at night and saw a beautiful sparkle by my feet when the wire grounded! :D

I am starting to think that is something like that. The recall list listed a bad ground wire connection and a bad connecting plug to the insturment panal.

Also if you see Sam tonight tell him to go to rattlesnake tomorrow. It is a better idea then going to bountiful.
