Jeep JK exhaust on the cheap

So I hate the factory exhaust on JK's. Fortunately, there are eleventy-billion aftermarket exhaust to choose from... Unless you own a 2 door JK. Oh, and also, most of them sound like crap.

Dynomax just released a new system called the "Quiet Crawler Exhaust" which sounds pretty great and it's about $400... But it won't fit 2 doors.

How about a new (mostly) exhaust for about $100? Increase sound a little and lose the OEM coffin muffler.

I used Dynomax tailpipe 55428 (2012-current) $65
Dynomax 24215 Race Bullet $34 (Amazon warehouse deals)
Dynomax 36438 clamps (2) $10-12 each

I ordered an additional muffler, but there just wasn't enough room for it on the 2 door, so I kept the stock resonator. Even then, fitting it required some cutting and welding. A JKU (4 door) could do this quite easily.

I'm pretty stinking happy with how my Jeep sounds with only a Dynomax Race Bullet, stock Resonator, and Dynomax tailpipe. Absolutely no drone, and pretty quiet at idle and cruising speeds. All for about $100.

Aparently you gained some horsepower as well. The first video took 23 secs and the modified one took only 17. :D

Sounds good.

Hehe, I figured someone would mention the times. While I wasn't exactly timing it, the second video was on an uphill grade, maybe 2-3%.

I did notice more grunt at the low end.

Update: After a couple thousand miles, the Race Bullet started to break in. The volume definitely increased. I decided to add a Thrush chambered muffler behind the axle about a month ago. The exhaust combo now is: Bullet Resonator->stock resonator ->Thrush muffler.

This combo really quieted the exhaust down. It was almost as quiet as stock. Last week, I decided to pull the muffler back off and paint it black. I also pulled off the Bullet Resonator. After paint and reinstall, there was no change in volume. The tone sound a bit better as well. There was a little buzz before I pulled the bullet.

So now I'm back to the stock configuration, with a Thrush Chambered muffler substituted for the stock muffler. I'm pretty happy with the sound, and it shouldn't really change with any mileage because there isn't any packing to compress/blow out. I didn't expect this muffler to be quiet, but it's great.

If you're considering exhaust for your JK, my recommendation is to just change out the muffler. The OEM parts are all stainless, and I personally feel the stock resonator is required for a rice-free sound.

The Dynomax Race Bullet is just a waste of money. It sounded good at first, but when downhill in a bad way quick.
