Jeep Shaking the He|| out of me!

So I installed my 2.5 inch lift on my already SOA Jeep and now it is vibrating like a beach. I thought it was due to the shortness of my driveline and lack of SYE kit on my 231.

I noticed this on my way home after installing the lift. I drove it in front wheel drive for the past week and it has shook the entire time. I thought it might be because my front driveline might not be balanced so I just let it be.

I installed a SYE kit and installed the driveline today and it is still shaking. It seems to be ok if I put the Jeep in neutral or not accelerate or slow excessively. If I just let it idle down the road it shakes really bad. Almost like it is riding on tank tracks. It first started when I lifted my vehicle but I drove it home in rear wheel drive so the front driveline shouldn't have been spinning. I don't think it is a driveline issue and I don't think it is a tire balancing issue. Could it be something with the axles? I checked the U joints on the font axleshafts and they look good. What else could it be... transfercase... transmission... I put degree shims on the rear spring packs could that be it...

I am sooo     :)

Whatever it is this sucks really bad. I drove to work today and couldn't go over 30 mph without it shaking really bad. If I let off the gas it seems to be ok but the minute I try to maintain speed it starts shaking again. Could there be something in the Transfercase making it do this? I installed the SYE at home is there a chance I didn't do it right. I have changed things out in the transfercase before and it has worked just fine in the past so I don't think that is the issue.

Would axle wrap cause that much vibration?

When I cruise through the parking lot at work (idleing) it shakes really bad. Seems like the slower I go the worse it is when I slow down.

Post some pics or measurments of your driveline angles. Because you say it did the same thing in front wheel drive, with no rear shaft even attached You may have not put your TC back together right. If that is the case I would think damage has been done but who knows.

Update!!

I shook my front driveline and it would move a little. I noticed that it wiggles at the slip in the driveshaft so I removed the front driveshaft.. looks like I am getting the front driveshaft rebuilt  . I then drove it down the road and it still shakes so I parked it and for the heck of it I started revving the motor and it shook the Jeep! I looked at the motor mounts and one of them is FUBAR. I assume that it is the culprit.. I will update when I get a new rubber bushing for it. It is a conversion kit so I don't know when I will be able to get this bushing.

Have you rolled your rear pinion angle up? Try doing that and install a Double Cardan CV. Try limit your pinion angle to less than 4 degrees off of your drive shaft. Unless your front drive shaft is real sloppy then it might be ok. DO NOT try to roll your front pinion up unless you roll your knuckles back, to maintain proper caster. it is more work than it is worth, even at your height.
If you want to limit axle wrap get a set of Anti Wrap arms. Check us out at Skysextreme.com or call us at 801-825-6577.

Chris, your supposed to be in school, get down to the shop....hah, busted

Check the track bar up front also, sounds maybe like the good ol' jeep death wobble maybe. Start the vehicle and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth to see if there's movement at either end....

This is one thing I don't know how to do "pinion angle to less than 4 degrees". I know now that my caster is not set correctly. I have some degree shims in it right now. I guess I just need another set of shims :) , OR get the caster set. I wonder which costs less.

Anyone have a quick fix for this?

It is for sure the driveline angle. I can post up some pics tonight to get a little more advice. It seems to be the culprit though. I shakes really bad at parking lot speeds 0-10 mph, and between 30-45 mph. I tried freeway speeds and when I put on the gas to try to speed up past 65 it just SHAKES big time. :)

My money is on a u-joint getting ready to grenade. Second guess would be the angles. Wouldn't be surprised if a u-joint is about to frag considering the torture we put the jeeps through last weekend!! KENNETH !!

I know!! I wanna do it again SOOOOOOOO BADLY! I hope I get the limited slip installed soon :). This weekend (if all is a go) I think will fix the culprit.

Just a thought. Does it shake constantly or does it come in waves? When my jeep was shaking like a mother and all of the balancing of drive shafts, fixing of angles, etc didn't work, the friendly folks down at 6 states noticed that at some point I had tweaked the shaft (name?) that comes out of the transfer case and attaches to the drive shaft. Because it no longer spun in a perfect little rotation (it spun in a nice wobbly rotation), it caused the entire driveline to vibrate like crazy, only it vibrated in waves.

I will check that after I get the caster set this weekend, if it doesn't cure it. Good info though! It would have to be a faulty kit since I bought it just last month (SYE).

Thanks!

Fixed the caster the weekend with big help from JD and Kenneth and it is running SMOOOOTH! Amazing what a little grinding cutting and welding can do for your rig! :D
