I have a 76 cj-5, I just replaced the starter and selinoid. Now all the starter will do is spin, it won't engage. I took out the starter and returned it to the store, they tested it and said it was fine. Can anybody give me some idea why this is happening?????Bye the way the motor (i believe is a 360)

What does the flywheel look like? You don't have a few missing or damaged teeth in that position where the starter is hitting do you?

Second guess is that for some reason the teeth of the starter are not engaging with the teeth of the flywheel. Maybe there are shims between the two that have added too much space??? Or it is the wrong starter?

You're all WEAK SAUCE!
I've gotten starters that test fine on the bench, but don't work in the car. Check the flywheel and the spacing, if they look fine try another starter.

yep.. wrong spaceing on the flywheel.. measure the distance from the flywheel and then measure the starter.. you might find out the starter is too short.. I also believe there was 2 starters for the ford.. a long and a short ..
you might need the long one
