Jeep YJ front: 3-link or 4-link

Has anyone here done a front 3 or 4 link on their YJ with keeping the frame in tact that they have some pics of? Got my rear 4-link figures out, but space is tight up front. The biggest thing I am encountering is trying to fit the panhard. Going to run full hydro, but trying to stay low looks like I will have issues of the panhard contacting either the diff or the ram. Looking for ideas.

Trying to Keep your YJ low with links and not cutting the front frame off is pretty hard... It also depends on what you consider low

My YJ is running triangulated 4 links front and rear

I have seen builds and kits that run different frame rails. Was hoping to avoid that if possible. Trying to keep the build as simple as possible. Think I might be able to pull off a 3-link after looking at link placement more, but will require bending the pan hard, and my bender won't do 1.5" x .25" wall DOM.

my YJ has a rear 4 link and front 3 link. I think mine sits fine in terms of ride height; not too tall at all. my neighbor his is a front 4 link with hydro steer and packaging is a real pita. he needed a front driveshaft 2 piece to make it work.
feel free to come by and check mine out if you are in tooele. after this weekend may not work for me though since i'm moving to meridian Idaho :)

Here is a pic of how much I moved my front frame up, on 42s and at full bump the bottom of my grill is 21" off the ground

I love the look of that Skippy, but at this point in time I don't think I am going to do that much work. First kid is coming in a month and at this rate I will be lucky to get the current plans finished in time for spring. I got it laid out to fit a 3 link I think, I may just have to be 1-2" higher at ride height than I wanted. Looks like belly height will be 23-24".

skippy, that YJ is bada$$

1993YJ: I think you're wise to think about keeping things low. who needs to put the fam at risk. I've put mine in some amazing extreme stuff and its only turned over 1x doh! what i'm saying is you set the height with the links at full bump and then adjust the height to what you want. coilover shocks are $$ but easiest. Could go with TJ like coils I suppose. don't worry too much if it seems taller than you'd like. what counts is the driver and the terrain you want to use it in. is crazy crawling in your future?
I did have to French the frame on mine in the back to make room for the rear air shocks, and that was even with full width axles. it would be a real challenge with stock axles.

here is a couple pics to give you an idea of what can be done. here is my dad who always complained about my off road addiction but loving the hell out of a trip to miller motorsports park 1x when the fam came out to visit :)

Just model it after a TJ but with 3 links and make them like 6 inches longer. They don't need to be a mile long if it's low and you have good geometry. I'm impressed by my XJ's "mid-arm" 3 link.

Full width axles are sitting under it now, just not attached yet. Plan to run ORIs so I don't have to do bump stops and anti sway bars, plus it will be really easy for me to adjust and tune them myself. I think I can only fit the 12s, but that shouldn't be an issue since I will only have about 5" up travel at ride height. From what I know of ORIs I want to have them close to mid stroke at ride height. Don't know yet if I will have to French the frame yet to make them fit. That probably won't happen until Jan.

After reading through tons of build threads on Pirate I think I have a plan laid out for the front. May have to bend the pan hard though. Anyone capable of bending 1.5" x .25" wall DOM?

Running your shocks between the stock frame rails and full width axles is pretty tough, ORIs have a pretty large OD body on them. It really depends on what wheels and tires your running

whoa, I had to look up ORI to see what it is. shocks that don't need bumpstops, limit straps, or anti-sway bars? can be set up mid stroke, and don't push off? sounds too good to be true. i'm skeptical. was going to say that until I put on anti-sway bars to control the rear, off camber stuff was scary.

Wheels are Allied beadlocks, 3.5" of back spacing with 39" Krawlers. Probably won't know for sure about fitting shocks until I actually get some

Ok I remembered to measure my belly height this weekend and with 5" of uptravel the bottom of my frame is 20.5" from the ground

Anyone capable of bending 1.5" x .25" wall DOM?[/QUOTE]

On my son's MJ we had to make a new track bar up front when we did high steer on it. My air over hydraulic bender couldn't bend the 1.5" x .25 DOM so I heated it up cherry red with the torch then bent it with my cheapo Harbor Frieght pipe bender. It came out great.

On my Commando I did 4 links front and back and it works great. I used TJ frame parts that I cut off a bent frame.
