Any chance one of the airport rental companies would have them in stock?

Sounds... like change... Best of luck Marc!!

Not sure. Checking though. Seems like Thrifty and Dollar advertise them for $49 per day. The "or similar" factor is bugging me, though. Doing some due diligence before seriously considering drastic change that has been considered for the past 12-18 months. I really don't use the "Jeep" to it's potential that often. Would like to drive it more often and dump the trailer/tow rig thing.... Not real sure I want to there, but thought test driving a JK for a few days would be a nice place to get some good info before making a change that I might regret.

Only a complete idiot would consider this.

Tow rig gone, RV gone, and I'm happy with the JK (I did keep my trailer, just in case.)

I traded in my duramax and my TJ a while back on the JK and haven't regretted my decision once. I drive it everyday and wheel it hard when I can. But I do like the idea of renting one for a couple days to make sure it is a good fit.

Do you ever miss the smaller size of the 2 door Jeeps? That is my biggest worry about going with an Unlimited. I hated how huge my K5 blazers were on the trail, but I need to fit 3 kids in the Jeep if I'm gonna trade in the tow rig. I'm actually going to the dealer today.

Rubicon or Sport? I think I'm leaning to the Sport (decent stereo, power windows/locks and little else) side as I don't think the Rubicon axle is worth the $ and would like to stay with the 2.72 transfer case.

I do miss the smaller, more nimble CJish size for a couple reasons. Obviously, you can fit one just about anywhere you want, but perhaps the biggest issue is I always trailered my other Jeeps. Not having a rescue vehicle always weighs on my mind, and I find myself being more carefull where I take the JK. I could trailer the JK, but it's really fun to drive and a lot less trouble comparred to getting two rigs and a trailer ready for the road.

I too have a K5, and that thing is HUGE comparred to the JK. The JK isn't as large as you think, but does have 3 belts in the back for the kids. Mine is lifted 4" on 37's. It's stable, easier to get in and out of than my others (not to mention the kids can get in back un-assisted), and has enough room for gear in the back. I think if you have the means, there's not a better family oriented 4X4 built today.

Call the airport locations and tell them you'd like to rent the specific vehicle for a weekend test drive before buying. They will usually hook you up.

I've done this a couple of times.

Rugged Rentals is one of the only places I've found that has one to rent (Thrifty and Dollar don't have Wranglers). $79 per day and they allow 200 miles per day. From what they said, people do rent them and run various trails. They're not exactly fond of that, but understand that people will take a risk with a rented vehicle. Their number is 801-977-9111

I wish I could say I'd be happy with the Sport, but I know I'd regret not getting the Rubicon. I just don't have the time to source/build/install axles, and I'm not interested in hardcore wheelin anymore. A Rubi on 35's will do any trail I'm interested in. A Sport would do nearly all of those trails, but each time it struggled I'd be wishing for the Rubi.

I have to second that. I really would be unhappy had I not gotten the Rubi. Mine is on 35's and even on 32's would do most any trail I would want it to. Mostly I've just done some minor bolt on upgrades and 35's with no lift keep it very streetable.
