just bought a midland handheld and having issues

So today I picked up a Midland Model 75-785 Handheld radio from a local vendor and its suppose to work with just your cigarette lighter outlet. While its plugged in though I turn it on but it immediately turns off again. Am I doing something wrong? I dont see a switch to turn it from battery to draw power from the cigarette lighter.

Hmm ill check that out in a bit here. The car one is fine I know that much.

Yeah, the one on the tip of the adapter is the one I am thinking of, unscrew the cap and you can take a look at it. Perhaps it is blown or bad?

Tried it in both my sidekick and neon and checked the fuses with the same result.

well that sucks. really cant afford to drive all the way back down to provo in my sidekick for a replacement. $40 out the window.

If the unit continually turns on and off then it cannot be a fuse. Could be a bad ground on the cig lighter though or like steve said a faulty unit. Could be a bad power cable too.
