I'm planning on coming up. Any rules/classes updates?
For the most part the rules will be very similar to years past. Mostly just a few minor updates to make things more fair. I am working on finishing up the minor details (and major details) and I'll get more posted up hopefully within the next week...
Hope to see everyone there... I'm trying to work out a few things to make this a lot more exciting event with as little down time for spectators as possible. It'll be great! :greg:

My biggest complaint from last year was that no one started any one of the events from the same spot. You could get a 100 foot run at the mud put if you wanted to but the time started when you were almost in the mud. If you want it to be a good show, make everyone start as far back as possible but EVERYONE has to start at the same point. There should be no getting runs at the starting line. This only makes sense to me. That is how every comp I have ever seen has done it. Make it a comp for driver skill and vehicle capability, not who got the best run at the tire pit.

I've heard that a lot. I totally agree with you about everyone starting in the same place. This years competition will require everyone to start in the same location.

In the modified class it says tires under 38", does that include 38.5", or would that be too big?

I would say that if it is stamped on the side as 38.5, then that would put you in the open class if you are a non-street legal rig.There are usually less competitors in the Open class, where the Modified is usually a larger class. This could work out to your advantage of placing better, and receiving a better return.

Last year I ran modified and ran against 2 Uroc buggies. One took first and the other would have smoked everyone except for a motor problem in the mini baja which didnt allow him to finish.
If I was going this year (and hadnt upgraded to 42s) I would just run open class. Like he said. Its generally a smaller class so it would be a tighter comp. Not many people in the Modified were happy with the pros running against us Joes. If you run open....who cares what your up against. Just go have fun! If you beat a professional buggy.......more power to ya!
I am going to miss this comp. TTC better be worth it. I have been to the King Challenge for the last 2 years and had a complete blast both times. First year I took 2nd place and last year took 3rd with a serious motor bug

The Open class is basically for the larger tire rigs, non-street legal rigs with tires larger than 38 inches. They don't have to be buggies, although we usually end up with a couple buggies. We have also seen buggies able to compete in the Modified class because of running a smaller than 38" tire. Its hard to know exactly what your going to be competing against.
In reality, if great scott would have put all his sheet metal back on his rig he would be street legal, even with 44" tires, and could compete in the Modified Class. (Section II.B.1.1a: Street legal with 36" and up tires). He would rather compete in the open class so thats where he competed last year.
We allow competitors from a lower class move up to the next class up if they and the judges feel they would be better to compete in the next class. Example: someone with a purpose built non-street legal rig with 37" tires would be considered to be in the Modified class, but CAN move up and compete in the Open class if they feel they would be competing against better matched rigs.
Your more than welcome to get a smaller tire just to compete in the Modified class. I've seen others do that for the same reason.

I might try to make it i have heard that it is cool .What kind of obstacles dose the course consist of and is there a web sight that I could go to to check them out.
We have seven events, a technical judging score and six courses that we use during the competition; The Mini Baha course, The tire pit, The Log Cross, The Mud Pit, Two rock gardens (mild for Stock and Modified) and extreme for the open guys, and our own pull sled. There are some pictures of previous years events on Cave Art's website

OK, I just wanted to give a brief update... everything is coming together and things are looking very good. We haven't had a lot of Pre-Registrants, and I want to mention that if you get your registration in my June 2nd there is quite a discount. Download the PDF's from my earlier post and mail it in if your planning on competing... It will save ya a few bucks to help offset the cost of gas.
We WILL have a professional video crew at the event this year and we will be selling DVD's of the event. I'm very excited about this one. With 4 camera's we should get a lot of good footage. Who doesn't want to be on film? This is very exciting.
We still have not set the price for the DVD's yet as I am still adding up all the cost's to produce the DVD, (Video Crew, tapes, dvd reproduction ect...). But I am looking at about the $10 range for anyone off the street and very possibly giving the competitors a deep discount. ~$5
What do you all think? Is that reasonable pricing... We don't expect to make a fortune on the DVD's but don't want to loose money on it either.
We are also selling Drawing tickets, we have a lot of great prizes this year, Cordless Drills, CB's, ect, We even have an Old School Schwinn Replica bike.

Some more good reasons to come to Price for the day is; Outlaw Car Show in Helper, and stock car races at Desert Thunder in Price just after the King 4X4 Challenge.

I think I am going to try to make it. I just got home from Top Truck today and the Scout is sort of......kind of.......not really stil running. If I have time to fix a couple things I will be there. The Scout is pretty tired right now. It might not make it through the whole event but you never know!
