King of the Snakes

So, I've been watching King of the Hammers video clips all night and I have determined that I will be making the pilgrimage to Johnson Valley in February. Desert racing, rock racing and rock crawling all in one event...that's just too cool.

That got me thinking that we need to have our own event here in Utah: King of the Snakes! There is plenty dirt road out there to have a small desert race that leads to Rattle Snake, through Wayne's World and then up Constrictor. Whoever can do it the fastest wins.

I don't think we are going to get the Lovell bros or JR in his billion dollar Bronco to show up, but it would be fun for the locals. This is a little preemptive since my junk barely runs right now, but I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in such an event.

Here is a link to get your adrenaline flowing:

Let me know what you think.

We had a time trial discussion a couple years ago on here about that. I figure who ever can clear the nest quickly will win

Not hard enough in my book. I could run the two trails in a few minutes if I wanted to. I know I could run Constrictor in just over 10 minutes.

Maybe something out in the West Desert like Chain Saw or something before they get closed

Yeah, you're probably right. It was just the first thing that came to mind and they are relatively close to a lot of us. Beats 12 hours to Johnson Valley or even 4 or 5 to Moab.

Throw out some more trails and we can do King of where-hell-ever.

Permits, insurance and liability, not to mention OK'ing the event with the 2 (or more) private land owners would force the event to be extremely small scale. Even if you don't collect money the BLM will consider it a commercial venture beyond that they will consider it a competition in which they will want the organizer to purchase insurance naming them for x amount. U4 has looked into this for events in the past, it could cost up to $2000 just to insure a trail ride. Tell the insurer that its a "race" and it could easily double? Beyond that and EIS would likely have to be permitted in order to ascertain the potential damages. Welcome to public land. So now your paying for the permit, the EIS prep fees that new policy allows the BLM to pass on to the user and you have to charge for your event. Exactly why KOH charges $575 to enter

You have an excellent point. There is a lot of stuff that goes into running an event. I guess I will have to get my racing fix watching KOH, until I can save up $575 and finish building my junk (another $20k!?)

Thanks for bringing me back to reality. Sometimes I can type faster than I can think.

Sorry to be a downer, I'm literally speaking from personal experience. A few of us got together a couple years back to discuss a "Utah Trophy Challenge". The more we dug the more red-tape we ran into :(. Completely doable on public lands, but expensive and a lot of work. Private property on the other hand, go to town

I know a guy out here in Saratoga Springs that might be interested in this type of thing and he owns enough property for it. If people are serious about it I could give him a call. He built an Nationals motorcrass track there years ago, and was talking about doing a offroad park for a long time.

i would be all for it I just think the land would get really torn up from everyone trying to hurry through it....thus leading to land closure....:-\

I guess that was already said...lol I was just too lazy to read through the whole thread...

If you get private property that someone wouldnt mind having torn up, that is what we need to do:)

I'd imagine all the preparations will take more than a month, so good, I'm in. Sounds like a blast. Will also be at the KOH with Jinx, Clay, and company.

I know a guy in santaquin that has already built a little course on some private property my brother helped build it, they ran it a couple weeks ago. I didn't get to attend because of work if more people wanted to help i'm pretty sure we could set something up I'll do some digging see how much land there is that we can use.

I was there for a week and pitted for Clay Egan. The KOH ROCKED. The wheeling in JV is like no other around. One great extreme trail after another. It's like the Disneyland of hardcore 4 wheeling. Yes, I know there are harder trails elsewhere, but there are soooo many different trails in JV.
