It's cool to see more of these style of races poping up. How long of a couse are you thinking for the Ultra 4400 class? If you can get Jeff and Dave to let you have a couple of spots in KOH 2010 from your races I'm sure you would get a good turn out. Once it gets a little closer I will know if I can make it. How much is the entry fees?
Ultra 4400 will run 2 laps around the 75 mile course. The faster trucks and cars will run 3 laps. We won't be able to get spots for KOH 2010 because we haven't been running this class all season. September 19 will be our first race with the new class. Dave told me that our series leaders of our 2010 season would be eligable for invites to KOH, but I don't have anything set in stone with him yet.
Any body know if they need any volunteer help, or how I can sign up to help out??
We could definitely use volunteer help, from you and anyone else who want's to be part of this. PM me your info and I'll set you up with the man in charge of that. Thanks!
I would like to do this but I am 100% clueless of what I need to run (other than a plastic fuel cell now). If thats all I need by Sept I am good to go but it will be hard to get everything together at the last minute. Is there a rule book or can you guys tell me what I would need?
Congrats on the new shop man! That would be awesome if you came out to race. We are trying to keep our rules inline with BITD and KOH, so that their guys can race in our series and our guys can race in theirs.
Here is a link to KOH rules. And here is a link to BITD rules. BITD doesn't have any specific rules for 4400 yet, but if you meet KOH rules we will allow you to run.
Basically you just need decent safety equipment. A good full cage, well designed and well built, 5 point harnesses, a plastic (with a decent firewall) or bladdered fuel cell, window nets (which I forgot to mention earlier, sorry), fire extinguishers, a fire suit and a helmet. I don't think there's anything big I'm forgetting.
I'm going to set up a Pre-Tech, hopefully 3 weeks before the race, here in Salt Lake City. I hope to have it Saturday, August 29. This will give everyone a chance to make sure their vehicle is good to go, and time to fix any small issues we spot. More on that soon, but it should be a fun event for racers and everyone else. We'll have some really cool desert race cars and trucks for everyone to check out there too!
I know there have been questions about propane use.
Propane will be allowed, at all of our races and in BITD and KOH. Here's what BITD says about 'pane:
"SCR22: FUEL TANKS
Safety fuel cells are required for all vehicles. Auxiliary fuel tanks may be added in all classes except those classes whose class rules do not allow auxiliary fuel tanks. Auxiliary fuel tanks must be safety fuel cells. Alternative fuels (propane or natural gas) must use an approved fuel cell as determined by DOT standards and with the approval of Best In The Desert Racing Association. Alternative fueled vehicles may not use auxiliary fuel cells. All fuel tanks must be securely mounted. Fuel tank must be filled from and vented to the outside of the vehicle. There must be a substantial cross member and firewall between the fuel tank and the occupants."
