Not so much... just used to a 4T powerband. :amy:
I still believe there is no better all around bike than the 300. This 350 will not be as good of a 5MOH bike as my 300 but I will be able to make it work in those conditions with some gearing changes. One factor in going to the 4t for me right now is the desire to do some longer rides and not have to worry about mixed gas. The other factor as far as mixed gas right now is the need for me to have separate gas from what I am running in our race mini's. We are running a 50/50 mix of VP110 and 88 non ethanol and that would get expensive if I was being lazy and not wanting to have a bunch of different mixed fuel around.

After How many hours should a top end be done on a 300?

It really depends on how it is being ridden and maintained. My 300 I was racing I would do somewhere around 75 - 100 hours because that was a full race season. A strictly trail bike I would say 150 to 200 hours would be good.

So Ive been all over the Map bike shopping. Im back to a KTM 300. I have the green light to get what I want but would like to keep it at or under $7k setup with the stabilizer, rekluse and suspension. Those that have ridden with me know I ride slow and with intent to not get hurt. I think I would be happy with any of them but wanted to hear your opinions on suspension from the different years. Is it worth going 12 and newer for the link suspension? Or do you guys think a lower end rider like myself would be ok with any 08 + 300 if I had the suspension done?

Im in the market for a bike. These seem to be super popular and fairly available on the used market. I would like to spend $3k but would spend up to maybe $5k if it means a large jump in bike. I get super confused with the ktm models and different generations. Hoping you guys could help me figure out witch 300 I am looking for. What are the year points for the different generations?

Ummm I don't think you qualify as a slow rider. You will eventually want to push the bike hard and fast through the desert and that's where the link will needed. You need to be honest about where you expect to ride 90% of the time and let that decide for you.

Having never rode with you I can't speak to your abilities but I don't think vast majority of the guys on here can push a non-link bike hard enough to really feel the benefit of a link. I personally prefer the pds because I KNOW I don't push it hard enough to really need the link and the pds is so easy to pull for maintenance and easy to adjust properly. The link bikes are a pain to pull.

With that said, the ktms seem to get better each year newer you go. So my advice would be to get the newest (cleanest) bike you can within your budget. If you want to sway your decision, come borrow my 500 :D. You could get a 2012ish 500xcw with what you're looking for right in your budget.

One thing to know about Caleb is he researches everything. He is absolutely right 99% of the time.

When I was looking, I specifically wanted the XC gearing. It has a higher 1st gear. I have buddies with the XCW's and they wish they had the taller 1st. The counter shaft sprockets are different too. Up until and including 2011 they all had PDS on the rear. In 2012 the XC got linkage and the XCW continued with PDS. When I went looking for a 300 I specifically went looking for a 2011 XC because I wanted the taller 1st but still wanted the PDS for ease of service and I'm too old and fat to try to keep up with these young whipper snappers so I wasn't going to be pounding the whoops very hard. My suspension was done by Stillwell and its set up perfectly for me. I like my suspension a little softer. When I bought mine, it already had the Rekluse and since then I have added a steering stabilizer, OX Left Hand Brake, OX throttle tube, Slavens S3 head, Mountain Moto Hybrid tire, V Force 4 reed valve system and FMF Knarly pipe with FMF silencer and carbon fiber guard. There may be some other stuff but my 300 is setup exactly how I want it. The bike rocks, I was anti-KTM for years but honestly, no one else makes a bike that will do everything you want or need. I can find you a bike if you want me to. PM me your cell and I will start sending you links. Come borrow it if you want to spend some seat time on one.

Thanks for the offer but I may never actually buy a bike if I don't keep my mind set.

I think the PDS would work fine for me if I have someone that knows suspension set it up. Thanks for the offer I sent you a PM with my number

Mine is a 12 and Russ's is an 11. I rode mine, then his back to back last year when we both just bought them. We were on a pretty whooped out trail outside St George. Honestly there was minimal difference. I think if I had some time to adjust levers and clickers on his, it would be so minimal. I would look for whatever the newest you can find. I would 2nd the xc over the xcw. I throw a 13t counter sprocket on mine for some tight mountain single track and it will go so slow I have a hard time balancing. Gear splits are great though. You are welcome to test mine after Russ's. Mine's pretty stock though. Some old guys have all the money for bike mods:)

Hurry and buy something so we can all go ride revenge on 5MOH for Derek!

I'm trying man. I was ready to make a trip
to Idaho today but the guy wouldn't budge $200 to what I felt was a more then fair offer and wasn't willing to split any of the distance for me to pick it up so basically he doesn't want to sell it. A couple others up near Boise won't answer the phone and the other 300 I like on ksl the guy selling it seems like a total bull shitter so I don't trust buying a bike from a Guy like that.

i found a nice one in Utah county I wanted to pick up but luckily that guy came to his senses and decided not to sell it so now when I find one he can ride 5moh with me.

I ended up picking up a 12 300xc. I need to get the suspension done. Who do you all recommend? The guy says it's been valved but doesn't really have any solid info on what was done.
