Here's a project I worked on today instead of actual work. My garage where I park my rig is detached so when I want to remote start my rig, the garage door stays closed and it's just not a good scene.... lame. I decided to modify my garage door opener so I can connect it to the aux out on the remote starter.
The pics are bad because the lighting in my office is bad... they say that it keeps me humble. In the fist pic, you can see I soldered two wires on the open side of the push button:
On the other side of the board you can see the button in the middle
I used mad skillz to drill a hole in the side of the case. Electronics were removed.
As you can see, when I short the two wires together, the remote transmits (by the LED lighting).
In my case, I connected the two wires to a relay so when the aux wire on my RS grounds, it shorts the wires and the opener transmits. The remote itself still functions as it always had. You could remove the 12V Batt, tape the button down and send power to the batt terminals but it wouldn't function in any other way.
This project is also useful for anyone who doesn't want a whale-d*k remote on their visor and wants to hide it away from thieves or for cosmetics. You can just add a momentary switch somewhere handy.
Enjoy.
