Lock-right in a Dana 60??

I am still in need of a locker for the front of the buggy. I have\had intentions of putting in a detroit. But I just ran accross a lock right that they say will fit.
First of all, I had no idea that there was one avail for a 60, but that it is also half the price of a detroit.
Is it worth it? will it hold up to my 40's? Or should I just drop the cash on a detroit?
What do you think?

You should PM redbulltj. Tim's been running one on 40s for four years without any issues. From what I understand, they dont take out the R&P like the detroits when it grenades.

As much as I hate them, I've been considering one over a detroit for that very reason. Buy the pin.

Hey kids,

Yes, I have a lock-rite in my HP60 front axle. It's been in the axle for just over 4 years. I recently put in 5.38s and the RL stills looks brand new. No signs of wear on any of the pins/springs/teeth.

I run Mt Logan Slugs and have done many full throttle blasts with the set-up....just keep mind I run the factory 4.0 with 5.38s and a 5.0 atlas. The 4.0 is no power house, so that might be the reason the RL is still together. I have twisted the splines on the stock axles but no damage to the locker.

I paid just over $325 for the LR and I do not regret putting it in there.

My 2 cents!

Sounds like this might be the way to go. I am running a 4.3 so It should have about the same power as your 4.0.
Thanks Man!

I am running them, I have run them in a 44 and a 14 bolt with around 300 horse and a heavy ass rig with 40's and never had a problem with them. Busted a few shafts on the 44 and no damage to the locker. I have friends that have run them for years and competed with them in a 60 with no problems. From what I have heard the weak link in running one is the carrier. I got mine from wayne hartwig and he was the cheapest anywhere I could find.

My brother ran lock rites in his scout for years. He twisted a few axle shafts and even broke the axle housing but never had a problem with the lockers.

Lock Rights for 60 are huge. Huge = strength. Not a bad way to go. I'd still do a Detroit JMHO. BTW, Meat, don't know if you knew it but... I HATE SPOOLS. Just so y'know. Oh wait, momma told me couldn't say hate. I LOATHE SPOOLS. There, that's better.

I don't understand the difference (in handling, performance) between a spool and a lockright? I ran a lockright in my YJs D44 for years in front and it sucked. It tended to wander a lot with the hubs in. Now that my 60 is in i run a spool and i detect no difference. Maybe it's better because the wandering is gone.

A lockright will engage and disengage with torque variation and slippage. Say you're driving down the road and hit the throttle, that will cause it to engage, thus the pulling. It gets worse when it's slippery. A spool is always engaged, yes more predictable, but much harder on other parts, i.e. ball joints, tires, shafts, u joints.... A spool in the rear will push the front end through a lot of corners.

I have a love hate relationship with spools. When I'm trying to turn I hate them, when I'm trying to climb, I love them. When I'm abusing my locker, I love spools. :greg:

I have to say that the spools have treated me well in the toyota. But in the buggy I wanted to have the ability to turn a little sharper with out the rear end pushing as much.

hey dan i been runing a LR in the front of my 60 for 3 plus hard years and no problem yet. i wouldn't even think of buying a detriot now that this has held up so well to the abuse my friend greg put it thru, then i been killing it for a few years now and no breakage yet. in a semi light buggy that your building it will be fine, jason.
