Alright,

Another thing, I pull my truck into the driveway fairly often. So it wouldnt be practical to have my antenna mounted 50% above my camper where it wont clear my garage entrance. If I mounted it in the back it would be well over half above the actual metal section of my bed, is that what matters or above the overall car which includes the camper? If it matters then perhaps I'll mount it in the front where it would be above the hood, though I dont know if the engine causes interference.

These may sound like dumb questions, but I'm really not sure, I've read so much detail in here that I begin to wonder these things...lol

if the SWR's are tuned and then for X reason, like say you gotta pull your truck into the garage and you gotta remove the antenna from the mount, do the SWR's go back to how they were after you put it back on?

Not often wrong. Never quite right.

I'm no expert by a long long stretch, but my understanding is the antenna will work best if it's physically on top of a flat plane of sheet metal, not just above but over the top if you see what I mean. That's why I'm going to use a magmount - it may not be as secure on the trail, but I can put it on top of the cab in the middle and hopefully get a little better reception that way.

I'll highly recommend a Wilson 1000. Mine is through the roof mount, (center of the roof, away from racks, etc. give the best ground plane) and it unscrews from the mounting base so I can fit into my garage without dragging, plus has a weather cap to cover the mount base when not in use. Comes with coax, is simple to tune and has great range. 60" whip doubles as a flag mount when at the dunes or Sand Hollow.

I have a cell-phone look-alike antenna that works well for me. Plus I can flip it down when pulling in the garage. They have em' at Flying J .
I hardly use my CB though. Just like anything ya can put alot of dough tuning/beefing it up or call it good outta the box.
