Is there much difference between the two? I recall an old thread about trussing the 30 that references the issue but wanted some recent feedback.

you talking rubi 44 vs late model hp30?
rubi 44 is just a late model d30 with a lp44 center and 30 spline inners instead of 27 spline

or waggy/ chev 44 vs late model hp30?

in that case Jmaxj is right... also bigger ball joints, no stupid little unit bearings... ect... 19 spline coarse outers

unless you're talking earlier d30's which have spicer 260's.... both axles have 297 joints. or idiotic cv joints in some XJ's and ZJ's that had HP30's, like with the 249 tcase

Sorry, I was referring to the TJ Rubi LP44 compared to the 297 HP30, I am aware of the advantages of real D44's found under Chevy/FSJ's. Stratton, I wasn't aware that the HP30 ever came with CV axle shafts, what did they come under from the factory? Because the ZJ's never had an HP30.

Not worth it, no upgrade the housing is just as weak as the 30 and the shafts are just as small.

And the cv's were used in v8 ZJ's with a LP 30

with the exception of 30 spline inners....

A few early ones did. They were crossover from the XJ's. My 94 had one, it even had an XJ part # stamped into the casting, to my knowledge it was the original. Seemed dumb though. They used the LP to clear the down/crossover pipe
