LS Swap 5.3 4I60e in 04 Jeep LJ.

I have been working on a LS swap on my 04 LJ. The donor truck was a 04 silverado 1500 with a 5.3L and 4x4 4l60e trans. I am retaining jeep 231J tcase. I am retaining the Jeep gauges.

What I have done up to now:

- cleaned the motor, replace all seals.
- installws the Novak weld on motor mount
- i nstallwd the advance adapter trans to 231j adapter
- install a sye on the tcase. Using the adv adapter motor mount to the skip plate
- installed a standalone harness.. needs wiring done. Will need alot help on this.
- Installed the jeep oem tcase shifter but having hard time shifting into 4Lo. Will probably need to source a new shifter set.
- install a fuel regulator bypass and ran the fuel lines.

What need done:

- need to work on oil pressure, coolant temp sensor, oil level sensor. Need help figuring this out.
- need wiring done. This is intimidating. Will have alot questions.
- need tcase and trans shifters. What should use?
.....and everything else that needs to be done.

Just an idea, you might consider dumping all your threads into one. It will keep it a bit more organized and then once it’s finished you’ll have a nice start to finish story of your build process.

I can move the posts into one thread, but it'll be a bit messy with the timeline. Probably best to keep the previous tech threads on their own and use this one for the actual build.

Was thinking about that but don't know how to move them. So I will just post on here moving forward.

Jeep ground wires:

The jeep had some ground wires (see attached image) that went to the engine block on the passenger side. Do I need to put them on the ls?

Also, in the image below is the cut black wire circled in blue and the one in yellow ground wires to the ls engine block?
Were the short red wire circle in white go? I know the long one circled in red goes to starter.

Definitely hook the ground wire back up. I like to add one between the alternator case and battery ground as well

I figured out the red and black battery.
Red front battery + to alternator, to jeep fuse box, to ls fuse box.
Black from battery - to engine block, to tub bolt on firewall.

I just haven't figured out where to connect those jeep ground wires.
There are 2 small black and with a blue stripe, 1 a little bigger that is all black, and a fatter black and brown.
Should I combine them and connect to battery - ?

ok, i hope i got everything for you in this post:
-coolant temp sensor, buy an aftermarket electrical one, and an adapter for the port on the passenger side head. Just google this as its super common.
-oil pressure, buy an old school analog pressure gauge and sensor, then buy the adapter for the top of the intake manifold on the back of the engine. Again, google it, its suuuper common.
-stand alone wire harness, use these guys https://bp-automotive.com/
-oil level sensor? just unplug it

I thought I read on one of your posts you were keeping the stock Jeep gauges? If that’s the case you’ll need to keep the Jeep senders. Tap the passenger head to 3/8 npt and install the coolant sensor. Drill a hole in the oil cooler block off cover above the oil filter. Tap 1/8” npt for the oil sender. Use the Novak tach emulator for the tachometer. In doing all this you will need to keep the Jeep ecu in place so it can send signals to the instrument panel. Piece of cake. Well, carrot cake.

Need help figuring these wires out. I was able to trace them and here is what I got.

- The 2 small black with blue strip go to the Fuel pump and vss and connect to pin #4 on black pcm connector. Are these ground cables? I did combine them into 1 wire.

- The medium all black also goes to the Fuel pump. Is this also ground?
- The fat large wire go to the computer black connector, and connect to pin 30 and 31 on black pcm connector. Is this also ground??

You’ll be time and money ahead to get Alldata for the wiring schematics of the jeep and whatever GM rig the engine came out of.
I printed each schematic out for each item I worked on. I then drew up the changes I made on those pages. All the schematics are now in a small three ring binder for future use if needed.

I was able to identify the wire, and they are all ground.
Should I ground them to the engine block or battery negative?

Can someone confirm on where to ground these 4 wires.

More chopped wire:

All the connectors off of this plug were chopped off. Some of then go under the dash. Something to worry about?

If I remember right, the k4 circuit grounds towards the left center of the firewall. Just to the right of center is a larger battery cable ground.

The Jeep FSM can be found and down loaded with a simple google search. It has every wire and every connector spelled out pretty well. That’s your best bet for figuring out what wires to keep in those firewall connectors. Hint: there’s are a few of them. I just thinned mine down.

Looked but can't find where the K4 wire goes. Though it was grounded on the side engine block. I was able to find the other wires which ground at G105, just can't find the K4

Ictbillet has these adapters fittings or oil pressure and cooland, that can be used without drilling and taping. Anything wrong with those?

Yeah i use something similar on mine. Then just buy universal 12v coolant tempt sensor and the analog oil pressure guage.

Now, those wont work with your factory jeep stuff. But they are gauges you can mount on/in your dash.

Well am using the jeep gauges, so probably easier to just run the sensors on the adapter
