His name is Ajax ( 6-8 month old Black Lab) and he belongs to my in-laws. Last thursday night I got to my inlaws house a little after 7. Ajax had been out of his kennel for about a hour. We look for him for about 2 hours and couldn't find him. Today my mother inlaw contact Bluffdale city about him. He was found last night around 10:00 pm. Anyone remember what the weather was like that night?
Apparently Ajax took off down Redwood Rd. down by Camp Williams. A snowplow hit him and scooped him off the side of the road. He was buried underneath the snow. A jogger just happen to see the red blinking light of his shock collar buried in the snow. What the heck is a jogger doing out in that type of weather, that late and way out there? They didn't see Ajax until they dug him out. This person took Ajax to the Bluffdale Fire Dept in a blanket. The firemen took care of him through the night expecting the worse in the morning. They started calling him "Lucky" when the next morning he was moving around and eating.
My mother-in-law called the city and somehow made connections as to where Ajax was. He was rushed to a vet. Ajax has a dented skull and a broken leg. His shock collar was broken and had shorted out, burning through his fur and into his skin. You can shake it and hear the broken parts inside it. And yet the red light still blinked last night when the collar was busted up.
Ajax will have surgery ($1800) on saturday for his injuries. He get's to wear a bike helmet for several months to protect his skull. For the next 6 weeks he has to stay inside and carried outside a few times a day.
I'll get some pics when he comes home from the vet in about 3-4 days. My father-in-law is thinking of calling him Rudolf now because of the blinking red light that guided the jogger to him.
