M-16/M-4/AR-15 people......decisions

So, I'd like to start piecing together a M-4 style rifle. My question to start though is this: What lower receiver should I go with? Stripped or assembled? I've read on how to assemble one and it's pretty straight forward, so I'm leaning towards stripped.

So, what's companies would you suggest or to avoid?

Thanks folks!

DPMS is good....

There is a pretty good lower out there, called the Gator if I remember right, it's pretty cheap and has gotten good reviews....

http://www.carricozarmory.com/mega.htm  these guys actually have them in stock: http://www.coldwarshooters.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=96

here's some uppers: http://www.fulton-armory.com/M6Parts3.htm

Yeah, I'd read about the Mega Gators. Looks like a good part.

Uppers, that's one I want to decide on too. I'd like to go A4 style like I used in the Army. Seems that what I find is A3.....same thing from what I remember though.

I'm looking for a SWEET side-cocking upper, but I can't remember who makes it. It's sweet though, when I remember I'll post.

Personally, I'm amassing my parts list: flattop upper, 16-18" medium barrel, reddot optics, G&G's flip-up backup sights, folding or collapsible stock, Ergo Grip, and an HK sling. :D

Side cocking? The rest of it sounds good.....I like the shorter barrels as well. I'm going to plan on a collapsible stock. The red dot site is a bit much for me. I'll just do a normal removable carry handle on a flat top upper. Ergo grips look pretty nice. Better than the standard mil spec ;)

yeah, I can't remember the specifics but it did away with the gay AR forward-assist (which really shouldn't be necessary if things are working right).

It changed the whole look of the gun, too.... very sweet. If only I could remember... :(

Oh, and stripped or assembled lower? Doesn't look hard, like I said, but I'd rather not ef it up if there's a chance.

If you can get a deal on assembled, it saves you the learning curve. On the other hand, learning is good, and there are websites out there to help.

And you can add your own sweet Jewell trigger or something. :D

Yeah, I've been on AR15.com half the day today reading what they think. They've got write up's on assembling the lowers and adding all sorts of triggers and such. I think I'll go stripped!

Brett, give me a call before you pull the trigger (no pun intended)... I've got a few freinds in the business that know alot about this stuff. I've been in the market for an AR15 for a bit now... but from everything I've gathered the best bet is to buy a lightly used or NOS gun that someone spent alot of $$$ assembling... seems the re-sale value on them sucks (which is good for buyers). Impact Arms & Get Some always have 20+ AR15 configurations in stock, built for ~$700 & up. Mabey they will give us a group discount ;)

Hmm....I'll keep that in mind on the FFL. Probably just as easy to have it shipped to Dougs or something like that though.

I'll let you know on that Kurt. Might be cool just to build one as well, but I'm game for either. Now the real question is.......can I build it with 3 round burst? ;)

Yep, friend of mine said that earlier too. His dad is buddies with the owner......I'll have to check it out, since that's two of you now recommending it.
