Well I just burned up another Dewalt grinder... This is getting kinda pricey. Anyone have good luck with a grinder that has lasted for years? I hate to drop another lump of dough on one that keeps spitting out the gears.... :-\

My work has them rebuilt. I don't know if it is worth it or not instead of just buying new,but they think so. I think any of them will go bad if used hard and the good dewalts are as good as any.

I ran a hitachi for a looong time, they use Bosch in the shop here that work well, and I've heard good things about Metabo from Jake.

Bosch is pretty bad ass. I have cut a couple zuks up into garbage can sized chunks with a bosch and some cut off wheels.

I have a dewalt. It's been light on fire, numerous shorts and cord changes, miles of griding and still works like a champ. I've probably had it 10 years maybe.

I had a craftsman that lasted probably 5 years before the nut became permanently stuck to the shaft (???). Motor was going strong, but I could not get the stupid nut off. I have a HF $16 one that's lasted a year or so before I changed the brushes. I'll probably get another year out of it with the new brushes. Not bad for 16 bucks. I'd get one or two of those (along with a good one) just so you don't have to change wheels very often.

I love my huge 7-8 inch Makida. 2 projects later and still going strong. I used a harbor frienght for about a year then burned that one up. Got a new HF one and it actually caught on fire about 2 weeks later. I then bought a dewault and its not doing so good either.

I'm a fan of the HF 4" grinders. Not that they're a quality tool or anything, but for far less than a quality grinder I can keep several on hand. Not having to change wheels in the middle of a project is a nice thing, and if something goes wrong just toss the thing.

I have a couple Makita 4" grinders. They're a decent grinder, but not worth the cost. At work I use Milwaukee. Way over priced, and triggers fail on a regular basis.

My 7" is a Makita. It's a killer! But, it's heavy so plan on getting a good workout if you're using it much.

Thanks for all the replies. I looked on the Dewalt website and I can order a set of bushings for about $7.00. I will tear the grinder down and see if that is the problem.

I really shouldn't complain too much about the Dewalt, it has lasted about 2-3 years and I must say I use it a lot and I'm not kind to it.

I think I will take a look at this Metabo and see what is up with that.

As always, things just die when you are right in the middle of a project....
