Maxxis Bighorns?

Who's used them? What do you think? Kurt, Cody, I know you guys have both run them. I'm curious about longevity, traction, and durability. Any hot tips on the best place to get them cheap? I've run 4 different types of Maxxis tires and every single one of them has been awesome. The Bighorn looks like a tire in the class of the BFG Mud Terrain, Goodyear MTR, Toyo Open Country MT, etc. The thing is it's CHEAP compared to any of these. Is it just an awesome deal on an awesome tire, or is there something I don't know?

BTW, I want 35s. I'm thinking of getting a set of 315/75r16. Should be almost identical to a 35x12.5r16.

I bought em on ebay. Paid like 604 shipped for 4 35x12.5 15's. I can find the guy in my purchase history if you want.

I'm happy so far. I've yet to find any place that a comparable tire (MTR, BFG MT, ETC) did any better. I can't comment on the longevity as I only use my jeep maybe 2000 miles per year and the majority of the time is spent off road.

I'd purchase them again. Obviously if it was a trailer queen or a tow rig I would go a different direction, but for a rig that is dual purpose I think they are great.

I've picked up 3 sets of them from Burgess Tire on eBay, each time they have come through as planned. Great tires... "I'll let you know how long they last when the first one wears out" (60's era Land Cruiser ad)

No personal experience, but my buddy used them on his rental jeeps in moab last year. He thought he would go with something else in the future. Seems like the tread-life wasn't what he expected.

However for the price, you could sacrifice some tread life.

I've been using some 315/75/16 Big Horns on my tow rig for over 2 years and they've been great! For a mud terrain type tire, I think mileage has been just fine considering they're under such a heavy vehicle. I do get a decent amount of cupping (the standard every-other outside lug raised) on the front, but thats the truck's fault, not the tires. I just rotate them often and make sure to not over-inflate them and it keeps wear issues under control.

Thanks Von. I don't think I'll ever have a problem with them being overinflated. ;)

I bet I've got approx. 25k on 'em and tread is at 50%-ish. I can see them lasting until 40k, but I usually don't run tires to the point of being totally worn out.

Even then, getting 40k out of a big truck tire on a 3/4 ton diesel is pretty impressive. Thanks for the info!
