Champion beadlocks

The do it yourself beadlocks are awesome for a wheeler on a budget that wants beadlocks and is willing to do a little work to get em. I found out last thursday that i would need a set of 17" beadlocks by today, and the DIY ones were not a possibility, so I bit the bullet and got a set of high quality aluminum beadlocks from Champion.

MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Mounting tires on these things is a breeze! I mounted a set of four Maxxis Trepador tires (including putting a bit of water in the front two ;) ) in less than the amount of time it would have taken me to do two of the DIY ones. These things are NICE. I'll do a little writeup on them (and the tires :greg: ) later, but so far I'm very impressed, and they've almost convinced me they're worth the price. I'd do a nice little writeup right now, but Chicky's got the digicam at her parade of homes house (that she's still working on right now :-\ ). For now, here's some teaser pics from my phone.

Here's a pic of an unmounted Trepador next to an unmounted Creepy Crawler and the Creepy Crawler on my buggy. All of these tires are 37 x 12.50s. The Trepadors are for 17" wheels, the Creepy Crawlers are for 16" wheels. The Trepadors are even taller than the Creepy Crawlers! I can't wait to try these things. :)

Here's a pic of the Trepador mounted on a bling'n aluminum Champion beadlock. This ones pretty crappy, stay tuned for better pics from a real camera.

A little note about my buying experience. I called every company I could think of that makes beadlock wheels. It should be noted that these wheels were not sponsored. I paid full price for them. I needed them fast and I was in no position to bargain, so my opinion here is not influenced by any sponsorship.

Champion is one of only two companies that said they could get them to me today. They were easy to deal with and delivered a top quality product exactly when they said they would. If you're looking to buy aluminum beadlocks, I was happy with the service I got from them. I'll note that Trailready also said they could deliver a set to me today, at a similar price. I also got excellent customer service from OMF. They could not get a set of wheels to me in time, but the person that I talked to took the time to educate me about the differences between Champion and Trailready and really helped me make up my mind, even though he knew I could not buy from him. I was NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL with the service I recieved from Allied Wheels. They did not seem to want to sell me a set of wheels. The person I talked to at Allied seemed to be very difficult to work with. I apologize for ruining her morning with my phone call.

Did the amount of backspacing end up working out for ya then?
It ends up being almost exactly the same width as before. I measured the rear end with the old tires/wheels and the new ones, and I ended up losing 1/2 inch of width, but the tires had more air in them and were not bulging at the bottom at all, like the old ones were. With the water and the rear winch I think it will be more stable then before. I am still thinking about running spacers to get a little more width back. I just played for a few minutes on the loading dock at the DI. The rear winch is an interesting addition. It will take some time to learn how to use it to our advantage, but in many situations i think it will be a great asset.

Good choice....I have never been to fond of how TR builds theirs. Champion has been around forever and is all about quality.

Looks Gooooood

Good luck this weekend....I may sneek down to watch....

I paid $1500 for a set of four including 2-day shipping. Steep price, but the product appears to be top quality, and it was delivered when I needed it.

are those better then the creepy crawlers???? or have you not ran them yet??
Don't know yet. I got them yesterday, and have not tried them yet. It will be hard to top the Creepy Crawlers. Most of the people that have used the Trepadors really like them. I do know of one person who likes the Creepy Crawlers better. I think Maxxis is trying to make the Trepador into an offroad-only/competition tire, and keep the Creepy Crawler as a dual purpose/consumer tire. On the sidewall right next to the word "Trepador" is the word "competition".

Hey, I just learned something. Trepador in Spanish means "climber". Cool!
