I was asked by the BOD to post the May minutes on RME. After they are approved at tonight's meeting, I will post the June minutes.

U4WDA Minutes 05/26/2011

In Attendance: Tacoma White /Matt Westrich/ Lisa Rasmussen/ Dave Sutton/ Matt Black/ Jack Johnston/ Ron Tolman/ Craig Stitcher/ Rick Gardner/ and Dan Davis visiting from Larry H. Miller
Conference call: Jeff Stevens

A call to order was done.

Minutes for April:
A motion to accept the minutes as written for April was made and seconded. The vote was taken and was unanimous.
General Announcements:

* Tacoma said that the New Compass was being mocked up right now. Also if anyone has any service projects with the Forest Service they would like to do, let him know.

New Business Members:

* Business member list is being re-done. This will help when the New Compass comes out. Business memberships are $150. Dave Burgess from Apex Machining is a likely new member. Sarge will follow up.

New BOD Members:

* None. There are, however, many outstanding positions available if anyone is interested in volunteering. These are the PR Director/ Activity Director/ and the Central Utah VP.

Upcoming Events:
§ Grand Junction Jeep Show: They specifically asked Tacoma at EJS to make our presence available for them on June 4th. Let Tacoma know if you are able to go.
§ Miller Motor Sports Park: John Williams will give us a booth at these events. June 4 will be the TeraFlex All Jeep show. There might be gate issues. Tacoma will talk with security about letting us in. WEROC is here on June 11. June 24 and 25 will be the Cruiserfest along with Lucas Oil and we will have a booth there.
§ Kanab Trail Ride: This will be on June 11 in Kanab. Contact Don Black for details.
§ Old School Rock Crawl: This coincides with the fair in Delta. This is August 5-6 and will be put on by Craig Stumph. U4 will have a booth there. It is kind of a “run what you brung” event. The last Old School drew quite a good crowd, yielded $2100 and 16 memberships and was a fun event.
§ TakeBackUtah: This event will be held on August 20th and will start at the Fairgrounds, go up to the State Capitol and then be over in less than ½ hour. This should be good to again get the message out to OHV users.
§ NPLD: This event is a nationwide clean-up of the public lands. All over the state of Utah different OHV users will participate in cleanups of the public lands. If you have any ideas of areas that you and your clubs would like to work on, contact the BLM in your areas. Let U4 know where those areas are.
§ SERVICE PROJECTS: There is always a lot to do in terms of trail maintenance, trail mapping, letter writing etc. We also need ideas about reaching out to other land use groups such as hunters, fisherman, equestrian users, bicyclists and others and get them on board with respectfully using the public lands and making them aware of our mission to keep the lands open.

Land-Use Update: There are many service projects that the Forest Service is looking for help with. These are up in American Fork Canyon as well as in Iron and Beaver Counties where there still needs to be some GPSing of the trails. Otherwise no report since Don was not on the call.

Treasurer’s Report:
* Jack finally has a check for the Canaan Mountain fund for $3000. Jack will get this sent down. There was a fee of $850 for the 501C 3 and $309.35 for preparation of the document. Jack will put a stop order to the first check. We also paid out to RME for the Potato Salad Hill Clean-up $218.

Membership Director Report:
· No membership report at this time as Gary was not here to report. A request of a membership list was made to make it easier when we are trying to getting new members and re-upping old members. We do need a list to make this job easier.
· There are some new members from RME that have joined the U4. We need to determine what they can do to help.

Webmaster Report:
· Steve Edmunds was not here to report but he will start to clean up our website. He will also include our new business membership as these become available.

Quartermaster Report:
§ Quartermaster Sarge reports that we need to order more shirts. The colors that were chosen were gray and tan with different artwork on them. Sarge will get the new artwork and between him and Tacoma, they will get the shirts ordered. We also need to order more stickers. We need a nice bigger vinyl sticker and then some paper stickers to give out to the kids. Sarge suggested that we come up with a sticker that states: Don’t Commit SUWA-cide. Keep public lands public. And a new tri-fold will be excellent in putting out information about U4. Tacoma will work on these things and he will have the order placed for these. We also need to get thank you notes out for product that we took to the Old School Rock Crawl. Christinne has the notebook in which she wrote all this information.
Compass Update:

* The New Compass is going to be an 8-page monthly newsletter and it will be printed with the idea to keep a major big printed magazine for EJS. This is in the mock up state and will be ready for July to send out. We need articles for it though and these articles are due by June 18th. They should be sent to jackgavin@u4wda.org. and they will include our Mission Statement and a statement from the President about supporting/ providing land use education.

Jack will do an article about “You Don’t Know Jack.” There will be an article about TakeBackUtah. Ron Tolman will write an article about Land Use and then we will get an article from BRC/United 4WDA. The cost for these is about 50 cents each. Tacoma’s goal is to print about 1500 every month, put them out in the stores of the 5 main sponsors: TeraFlex, Summit, Novak, Tom Woods and 4-Wheel Parts- and get the word out about U4WDA. Tacoma asked LHM to consider putting this in their showroom for the Jeep dealership to show that they support U4WDA. Tacoma will talk with the GM Cory Nanenman and get back with the details.
Vice-President’s Reports: the VP reports will be put on the forum so the clubs’ activities will be on the website.

* All VP’s are to put their reports on the U4 BOD forum for all people to be able to read.
* Jeff’s are posted on the forum but some of the highlights are that RR4x4 indicated that they had about 100 more people this year than last for EJS. The Coyote Canyon issue is still at hand and the BLM went up there and took a look at it. They are cautiously optimistic that it might re-open. The SUWA lawsuit has been pretty quiet.
* There is a group in Montana called the Citizens for Balanced Use and they held a fundraiser in Montana. Look for more information online. This group incorporates about 60 organizations that are involved in land use issues. There were 300 people at the fundraiser dinner and that is a pretty good turnout. The organization to contact up there is the Montana 4x4 club. This might be something we need to work toward organizing and helping to pull off.

Delegates Update:

* Blue Ribbon Coalition- Jack reported that this was mostly on the forum. Cal4WDA has been trying to keep open the Ocean Dunes and Johnson Valley areas of their state but the US Marines all say they need this area to practice real desert exercises. So this is a big issue in terms of public land use in California. Rob Bishop and two other senators are trying to get certain wilderness study areas released to open them up to public access. It is the senators who will make this happen.
* USA_ALL- we need a representative from U4 to attend their meetings; this will continue to show our interest and support.
* United 4-Wheel Drive: Todd was not here to report.
* OHV Council: Todd was not here to report.

Additional Business:
We probably need someone closer in to be an additional signer on the checks. This is just something to think about for next meeting discussion.

Next meeting will be on June 30th, 2011 at Larry H. Miller Dodge Conference Room at 6:30 PM. All are welcome to attend!
