Mechanic Recommendations

Can you guys recommend a good mechanic to take my 4runner too to have the timing belt changed out and a tune up. I'm at 120,000 miles on the original timing belt.
Trying to avoid taking it to a dealership.

Not sure on a mechanic in your area, but I would recommend buying the belt as well as a water pump from the Toyota dealer and having the mechanic install them. I have seen 3.4 water pumps leak at 120K so you may want to replace it while your in there for safe measure. It's well worth paying the extra cash at the dealer for parts like these

My good friend was a Toyota tech at LHM Toyota for 6 years before just starting his own deal. He's the only person I trusted my 4Runner with. He's in the Sugarhouse area, if you're interested in him performing the work let me know... I'll get you his info.

I think I might still have a coupon LHM or Karl Malone Toyota sent me for a timing belt replacement for 299.00 including the belt. I don't have a belt in mine so I'm not going to use it if I have it.

I have always been treated well by Bryce at BK Automotive (roughly 3200 South Highland Drive.) I think his number is 801 484 4100.

I just recieved a quote from Mark Miller Toyota downtown to do the T-belt, water pump and belts for 680.00 total; this includes the coupon.

There may be other issues like the tensioner, idler pulleys, cam seals and coolant hoses.

This is on a '97 5VZFE 4Runner btw.

I did it on myself following a write up on either Yotatech or TTora. It was the first time I had done this type of thing before and I really took my time. It took me less than 5 hours and I was glad that I did not pay the $600-800 for the shops to do it.

Actually it was the water pump that needed to be replaced and I just did the timing belt while I was in there.
