Converted Oil Burner
- Location
- Moab, Utah by way of Pacifica, CA.
I am assembling a group to do the Transcontinental Railroad grading that runs from Lucin to the Golden Spike Visitor Center. It will happen the weekend of Memorial Day (I know, I would like to be in Moab too:-\). I am not sure as to which days it will be, I will provide that info in the next day or two. UPDATE: Saturday, May 24 2008 to Sunday, May 25 2008
It will be a two day affair. One day to get to Lucin for some recreation (quads, explore, bunny busting, etc.) and the second to explore the transcontinental grading from Lucin to Golden Spike Visitor Center.
The grading alone takes about 5 hours to drive straight through so it may take upwards of 8-10 with stops for exploring the many small towns that helped maintain the early steam engines that passed through.
Hazards on this trip are minimal. I ran it on May 9th-10th and punctured a tire with a railroad spike. I think that it was mainly my fault because I ran over a few railroad ties that might have had the spike in it. There is also the risk of driving off the grading and rolling a vehicle (it is an elevated bed with a steep grade on both sides).
If you are interested in joining on this adventure please post up or email me (rkillpack@gmail.com) and we can hammer out the small details.
I am hoping to document this trip fairly extensively so I will post up as many pictures as I can.
