My microwave decided to stop doing what I tell it to... Anybody here that could help me with some simple troubleshooting? As long as it is fairly simple, I plan on performing the repairs myself.

It is a Goldstar model mvh1615WW by LG, and I have narrowed it down to either a touch pad or control board issue (I think...)

Don't worry, I don't plan on zapping myself with the capacitor either. :)

If you don't mind, text me your name and #, and I'll give you a call to discuss the issue.

Any help is much appreciated!

Was a parts manager for famous appliance for over a year, (no one go to them)
Cant really help you diagnose the problem but those parts are hard to come buy and the key pads normally go out.

When my parents went out I decided I would take a look. After touching the wrong wire I ended up in the hospital with my hand burned inside and out. They figured it was about 30,000 volts and when it went through my hand it cooked the inside also. The only thing I can think that was as painful as that was my kidney stones. There is a capacitor in there that stays electrified for a few hours so if you go in make sure you unplug it over night. I would highly recommend not opening it up but if you do keep ice handy :)

I might be able to help you.
Explain the problem. Have you inspected the circuit board for any burned components or cold solder joints?

I did inspect the circuit board and couldn't find anything I didn't expect (no burnt traces, no broken solder joints, no components that looked toasty...)

The problem seems to be that the buttons on the right side of the touch pad don't do what they are supposed to do - I think they do what the button to the left of them does.

For now, I ordered a new touch pad (~$20) and I'll see if that does it. My only other thought if that doesn't do it is that the control board is toast.

Kiel - I do realize that they are cheap, but not that cheap. It is a built-in unit, that would be about $300 to replace. I'll take a ~$20 repair (I hope) over replacement.:)

Thanks for the input RME!
